Article on making friends in a new country
« on: January 16, 2017, 09:04:57 AM »
I don't  know if anyone else reads BBC Capital, but there are always good 'expat' articles in there.  This one was interesting on the attitudes need to make friends in a new country, but that it is also very hard as well.

"...an independent spirit is crucial. There needs to be a degree of fearlessness, and a strong enough mentality to be able to handle the loneliness, which can be crippling at the best of times."

Do you happen to have a copy of that article by any chance that you could share? Would be curious to give it a read through.

haha Didn't think anybody would even notice!  ;)  :P

I was so busy over the holidays I pretty much went radio silence! Still alive and well though and I'm back!

Just gave the article a read and just wanted to say that this part has actually worked for me before even living abroad! :

"For Jeannie Liu , the key was being persistent. “I tried going back to the same place again and again, like a restaurant, or a supermarket. Eventually I got to know the people and was invited to all sorts of gatherings. Then I met more people and made more friends.”"

Going to the same place repeatedly is bound to make you at least some casual acquaintances!

Look who's back!

Back again.... Shady's back... Tell a friend.

(Sorry I just had to!)
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
