Spouse Visa Timeline Worries
« on: January 19, 2017, 04:52:08 AM »
Hiya,

I've tried looking everywhere and contacting everyone, and I can't get a clear answer from anyone. So I thought I'd try here.

For reference, I'm a U.S. citizen, and I applied to switch from my student visa to a spouse visa on 2 Dec. I got the BRP letter really soon after the app. However, my current visa (student) expires on 30 January, and I haven't heard anything back.

I'm really worried that I won't hear anything back before my visa expires. Like insomnia inducing panic levels.

Will I be able to stay in the UK after it expires if I'm waiting for the results of the spouse visa? And if so, for how long? And any other bits you think I should be aware of.

Thank you.

Hi Solaire.  :)

Don't worry! As long as you submitted your FLR(M) application before your student visa expired which you obviously did, you are fine. :)

See item 14, p6.

Exactly as Larabee said, it's not an issue.

FLR(M) by post usually takes about 8 weeks but as you applied over the holidays, I'd anticipate a 10 week wait.  Hopefully it won't be as long as that, but just don't worry if it is.   :)
