Money transfer
« on: January 27, 2017, 10:11:20 PM »
Hello everyone

You guys might be remember me while I was waiting for my visa back in October and the dress I went through. Lol. Anyhow all is good and we are now in the U.K.

I do have a question though. Does anyone know the best way to transfer the money from the us to the uk accounts? What are some of the methods you guys have used?

Any answers would be appreciated

Many thanks
Leila

I recommend Transferwise.  https://transferwise.com

The rates are great and the transfer often happens same day.

I started using them after the Xe takeover debacle and haven't looked back since!  :)

Thanks laraabee.

We are having trouble with the us bank. We have given Wells Fargo our uk address and they don't recognise it because it is international so we can't do the actual on line wireless transfer to the banks here. Very annoying.

Not sure if this helps but if you know any information please let me know.

Strange,  Transferwise now uses Wells Fargo as its bank in the US.

I'm with Wells Fargo (with address in the UK) and linking my WFB account to my Transferwise account couldn't have been easier.  :)

If you want to use them, call Transferwise, (not WFB), they will talk you through it.  :)

Perhaps you have already found a way to do it, but when I was in grad school and my parents wanted to give me some money they'd use xoom.  It was instant (once I was leaving the house and she called me and asked if I needed cash, and it was in my account by the time I got to the pub) and I think the fee was pretty low.

just another plug for transferwise. i use it every month to send money to my tiny local usa bank (damn student loans!) and occasionally money to the UK, too. it has been WAY better than direct bank transfer (it's far cheaper) or paypal.

Hello everyone

So I used tranferwise and it is excellent. Very low fees and very speedy transaction. Almost within 24 hrs.

Thank you larabee and everyone who suggested this great company. They are really the experts in this field.

Thanks guys x

I'd like to chime in with another thanks for the Transferwise recommendations!

We ran 2 trial transfers - Transferwise and an internal HSBC US -> HSBC UK account side by side and Transferwise saved us several hundred dollars even after accounting for all fees.
