American car with American plates

This is totally random, but the other night we saw an old Cadillac on the parkway. It was American, steering in the left side. I've seen a few around because there's a base somewhat near...but the thing that confused me was the guy had Ohio license plates.

Has any one ever seen that? American plates in the U.K. I didn't think that was legal.

It was so strange to see it driving on the road

It's illegal to have these plates on while driving on the roads but cars like these are mainly for shows etc so people have the original plates for authenticity and swap them over when the go to car shows.

My friend had a Japanese import and kept his Japanese plates on and went on the road with them. He was soon pulled over

Only legal in certain neighbourhoods back home.
