DMV and UK marriage certificate
« on: March 23, 2017, 11:07:42 AM »
Hi folks,

Just a quick question: has anyone taken a UK marriage certificate to the DMV/Secretary of State before (for e.g. a name change)? Do they look at it all weirdly, or do they tend to accept it like a marriage licence?

Thanks!

I changed my name for my social security card on my last trip home, and they questioned my marriage certificate. I couldn't find our copies so I only had the original hand written one. But after a few minutes they accepted it. They kind of passed it around the office first.

I had no issues with mine from Scotland. They did have to get a supervisor to override something because of it being foreign but it just took a couple extra minutes.

Oh, thank-you so much for your responses. My apologies I didn't get back sooner - that's a great relief!
