Just a quick question.
When you submit the online form do they contact you to make a biometrics appointment? because there isn't a telephone number for the biometrics centre here, I know this because bizarrely I'm still waiting for my new green card after having my update biometrics done April 11th....just a worry regarding my husbands immigration as I believe time is of the essence.

Hi! No, it's part of the online application.  :)

Once you've submitted and paid, you'll be redirected to another page where you can choose your appointment. People are usually able to get one within a day or two.

If, by any chance it is busy and you have to wait any longer than that, I can report that many of our members have just walked in earlier (with their original appointment letter and passport which is all you need in spite of what the email will tell you) and all of them were successful in getting seen earlier.

Thank you Larrabee ....that sounds much easier, hopefully we'll be lucky and get an early appointment, but if not I'll bear in mind the option to get there early and hope he'll be attended to. :)

Yes I'm getting there faster than I thought  :)

Incidentally can you advise me of the best way to post everything to Sheffield?

Most people use the VFS global service. They are a commercial partner of UKVI and provide pre-paid shipping and also priority processing services.

https://www.vfsglobal.co.uk/usa/user_pay_services.html

The website is a little difficult to read and also services non-settlement visa applications that are processed in New York.
Be careful if you use their services that you choose the "settlement" option. (it'll be the more expensive choice)   :)

We are  recommending paying for priority processing unless you are in no hurry to move to the UK, as applications are taking longer this year than they have done in the past and we are heading towards a traditional summer slow down.

Thank you for the link, I'll take a look and try to make sense of it all lol  ;)
It's our intention to apply for priority anyway as we don't want to delay any longer than necessary.
I'll keep you updated Larrabee and thank you once again for taking the time to be so patient with me,  you are appreciated  :)

 Good morning larrabee

I'm very stressed today as my confirmation of pension from the UK finally arrived but it's dated May 16...I'm really worried about the 28 day stipulations and if I complete and submit the online form today and get an appointment for my husbands biometrics for next week, I'm not sure I can get everything packaged and to the post in this time frame. I have to get it right first time as the total cost is too much to find again.
Do you know if the 28 day limit is from the date I send the documents or from when they're received in Sheffield?

The 28 days is from when you submit your application online.

You can always change the date of the biometric appointment!
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Thanks for the clarification  :) so in theory it's doable lol...I just have to hope nothing else goes wrong. At this rate I'll be a nervous wreck by the time it's all done and dusted  ::)

You should be fine :).

If it's dated May 16th, then you just need to make sure you submit and pay for the online application by 13th June at the latest.

Oh! So the cut off date is from when the online application is submitted not from when you physically post the documents plus form to Sheffield?

Yep - the 28 days is calculated from your official application date... which is the date you submit and pay for the online application.

So, if you submit it today, today will be your official application date :).

I thought I was all set but apparently not as I noticed when reading the guidelines for appendix 2 that as our finances are met under the pension category they need 6 months bank statements with the pensions deposit appearing in each. Unfortunately my husbands social security payments only started to appear from March this year although he was awarded it in January. ..January's statement is the back payment then they miss a month so March onwards are the statemen's they need.
I'm so disappointed after all this time, to discover I can't go ahead till I receive August's statement  :(
