Lifetime ISA treatment
« on: April 06, 2017, 08:44:57 AM »
I did search but couldn't find an existing recent thread on this.

What are peoples thoughts on the lifetime ISA for US citizens?

I guess not recognised in the US because of the possibility to draw down at an early age (for first time buying). So would have to pay tax on interest and probably declare government bonus as income?

That is exactly what I would expect. My wife and I have regular cash ISAs and pay US tax on the interest, so I would guess the government bonus would be taxable, but it is still worth having since it is "free" money, a bit like matching contributions from an employer in a retiree plan such as a 401k except the match is taxed only on withdrawal.
