TV programme idea: You and Sonofasailor mistakenly become amateur detectives, solving mysterious deaths in the wilds of East Anglia, but mostly getting yourselves in trouble.

I was thinking more like a road trip, where we have adventures and heartfelt conversations and talk about our journey.  Maybe through Essex.

Are you going to be the Brydon to sonofasailor's Coogan? When I get round to watching the new series of The Trip, I shall ponder.

It's true that I am married to a fully qualified EU citizen.  Wether that's my Trump card or not I'm not sure. I was reading about it last night but couldn't wrap my head around it.

Sirius, are you there?  ;D

Just got a call from my MP's caseworker.

He talked to the person about my case and essentially they haven't even started working on it.  There's no way it's going to be done before my flight.  They did promise that it definitely will be done before AUGUST!

The caseworker is super nice and right now he's calling to see what will happen if I come in on a replacement passport with no visa and what paperwork I should bring.

Latest update:   The caseworker called me back and said UKVI said I should request my documentation back.  Because I have ILTR, they will put the application on hold instead of cancelling it. I won't lose the fee.

Even though the website says it takes 10 working days to return docs, they said go ahead and I have "just enough time " to get them back.

I immediately filled in the form since I didn't want to waste time, but now I'm not certain I did the right thing.

Not sure what I'll do with the embassy appointment.

It's all giving me a giant headache.

You don't want to change your mind about becoming a citizen after all that?  ;)

No more visa hassles!  ;D

They were not joking when they sent us those letters saying it could take up to 6 months to process the NTL's  :( Hope I don't need to do any emergency travelling in the next few months! Ridiculous scenario really...

I'm absolutely knackered.  It all started talking to my MP at 7:20 Am and I spent the whole day getting phone calls.  Everyone thinks I am secretly trying to find another job.

Things are good today,  I thought things over and I am actually in good shape.  If the old passport doesn't show by Thursday, I can still go to the US Embassy and get a temporary passport.  While I am in the States, my old passport will certainly arrive from the Home Office and my wife can bring it to the airport if necessary.  That solves the problem of coming back on the temporary passport.  I'm sure when I come up to the border agent with all that mess (3 different passports, Home Office Case number, ILR in expired passport, tales of MP involvement) they will just wave me through to avoid the paperwork.

Just in case anyone is following this, I still haven't got my passport back.  My flight is on Sunday morning.  My appointment at the American Embassy is tomorrow morning.

That sucks!

Fingers crossed for you! There's still a few days before your flight so hopefully something will work out!
