May timeline
« on: May 03, 2017, 04:55:39 AM »
Hello,

Thought I would start a thread for us lucky ones applying in May. I applied online for my wife's spouse visa today. Bio metrics are on the 8th and we'll mail everything priority to Sheffield later that day. Fingers crossed for a smooth process and a kind turnaround time. The quicker we can get back to the UK and out of my buddy's basement the better!

Ok, good luck to you both.  My application confirmation was received and confirmed on April 10, I just popped in to wish you both well.  I also wanted to tell you I took my biometrics letter to the place 4 days before my appointment, and was allowed to get it done on a walk in basis.  Shaved off 4 whole days in sending the package off, and was in Sheffield on the day of the appointment.  I thought it was worth doing.  Did you apply priority?

Yes, bring your letter to biometrics and go right away in the morning (mine opened at 7:30 Am but first available appointments weren't until 10). Chances are, you'll get it done sooner and get your paperwork in sooner. :D Good luck!

By the way:

This is the correct address right?

Sheffield Visa Section
International Operations & Visas
6 Millsands
Vulcan House
Sheffield
S3 8NH
United Kingdom

I got this from the UKVI website. However, when  bought a return label from VFS Global, The postcode was S3 8NU....I am nervous!

Yes, that's correct - the different postcodes are probably just for different sections of the same building or for adjoining buildings within the UKVI consulate (if it covers a large section of the street)

Does anyone know if the current wait time for priority spouse visa applications is 4-5 weeks from receipt in Sheffield? I am planning on mailing our paperwork to Sheffield this coming Wednesday. Just trying to get at least a rough idea in my head what we are looking at time wise. Obviously I won't book any travel etc until we have a decision.

Yes, I believe it usually starts from when they log your document package into their system in Sheffield and you get the confirmation email. But as the emails don't always get sent, you can use the date of receipt in Sheffield as a good estimate.

It's that time again for us - we just posted our FLR(M) application off on 2nd May for our first in country application - we know they have it as we did signed for delivery but nothing yet - just patiently waiting though and surprisingly not stressing about it too much. We always wanted to do it in person but with the ever increasing costs and what it looks like it's going to cost us for ILR in a few years we need to save all the pennies we can! (Well and the newborn baby now sucks our finances dry too!)

Hey,
Just as an FYI, since this is your first in country app, they don't send emails, they do everything by post. If you watch your payment credit card you can see when the payment goes through and sometime after that you'll get an invitation by post to do biometrics at a post office. That's the only correspondence you get from them, unless they ask you for missing documents, until you get your decision.

Someone HAS to be home to sign for it as well, it comes back as two separate packages over two days, one with your BRP card and the other with your documents and passport.

ETA: My app in February took 6-7 weeks. I got my decision just before Easter.

Cheers

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Thanks for the heads up - I actually just noticed they took the money for the visa from our payment card already so that's good (much faster than I expected) - will wait for the correspondence through the post!

Having just written the above post the postman knocked on the door with a signed for letter addressed to my husband (the USC) - cue my confusion! Turns out the home office have returned our newborn sons British passport (which we included to show his uk citizenship as the application asked to detail all dependants even if not applying) along with a letter stating they have photocopied and it won't need resubmitting (even though we had photocopied in our docs with all the other photocopies!)
Why would they send back just his passport? Wouldn't it make more sense to have sent it back when they return all the other original docs all at the same time? Or did we make a mistake and it wasn't needed for the application so they just sent it back as it was surplus to requirements?

Either way it doesn't really matter I guess - just surprised!

I haven't heard of anyone including their child's passport before.  They probably just returned it ASAP so they were not responsible if it got misplaced.
