Southernboy, ours was a not straightforward as well...... And ive been here now almost a year now with my wife!
I too received the "not straightforward" email and a week later got the "decision made" email, followed by an approved visa. Hang in there - they're usually just manipulating their metrics with this delay tactic.
Arrived in UK:   22-Feb-2018
Nationality:  US Citizen; wife is UK Citizen
FLR(M)Online application:  25-Jul-2020 anticipated

Unfortunately our “not straightforward” email came 33 BDs ago 😐

KFdancer I’m just too cynical having been screwed over many times in my military career that I have little faith in government agencies

I get it too ... I'm on the forum all the time, plus I work for a government agency and I work on military bases :P!

Oh cool! I didn't realize you were in the KC area, we could have gotten together and lamented about how terrible the process in person!  ;D

I want to extend a huge heartfelt THANK YOU to larrabee, ksand24, and KFdancer and everyone else who helped along the way. This process is utterly atrocious and I honestly don't think I would have done it correctly without the help of this forum. Sure, all of the info is online if you search through the website far enough, but UKY helps so much. The work that everyone on here does to help one another is amazing and I am so glad that this forum exists. Sending out tons of good vibes to those who are still waiting for their responses!

Hi,

We applied to renew my spousal visa as the first 2.5 year visa was expiring. We applied from within the UK on the 24th February. We received a letter confirming that they received the application. Many of you are talking about an email that you've received - I haven't had any emails, is this normal? Do you know what the current processing time is for an application to renew the visa from within the UK? The 8 week processing period is end of April and I am flying back to the US for two weeks and my husband and I need our passports back - cutting it fine!

You need the FLR thread!  :)  FLR was taking around 6-7 weeks but I'm not sure if we've had anyone lately.
You won't get any emails with this application, everything is done by post.

Have you done your biometrics?

Generally, if you have travel booked the thing to have done would have been to make an in-person appointment for a same day decision.

I am a newbie here but wanted to share my timeline. Posted earlier on the on the expedited thread, but I applied standard.

Applied from: Atlanta USA- Standard Spouse (husband is a Brit)
Online Application:  February 13, 2018
Biometrics: February 16, 2018
Documents received in Sheffield: February 26
Email Confirmation of application received: February 28
Non-Straightforward: None

I called a spoke with UKVI since it has been over 30 BD, after making me feel totally ridiculous for calling this soon, I was told that my application had been reviewed by the ECO and that it was pending decision since March 19.  That of course sounded great to me but she informed me that means little and it could take many more weeks or months for a decision to be made.  She also informed me that applications are being delayed right now and many are taking greater than 12 weeks.   >:(  Feeling totally frustrated and wishing I had applied expedited in hindsight....  Best of luck to all of you. This is brutal!

You likely have a bit more of a wait ahead of you. I think Sheffield has been telling everyone that most applications are taking longer than the allotted time, but this isn't always true. If I had sent in documentation to their liking for my app, I would have heard on business day 58 or 59 or something. You are definitely in the hardest part right now and it sucks. Try to do stuff to keep your mind off the application or start packing if you haven't already. You'll likely hear back in the next few weeks, but just try to keep your head up!

Yes. I would only follow up after 60 BD for non-priority. Unfortunately they won’t even entertain you before that.

I'd agree with both of the posters above -- our application (submitted in December) took almost the full 12 weeks to be approved.

Just try not to think about it until you get the decision made email -- then you can go into panic mode!
