One of the things I wanted most when we were house-hunting was some sort of outbuilding that could become a workshop.  And now we have it!

One of my first projects in more than four years, I designed and drew up plans for this cabinet, and my husband and I built it.  Gratuitous details: ebony door pulls, and soft-close hinges.

It didn't go entirely smoothly, though.  While making the doors, we broke a router bit.

Wait a minute, is that huge workshop in U.K. Or America?  Don't say it's within commuting distance of London where most of us are hanging underwear in the kitchen

Oh wow! Well done! Is this totally a hobby for you or do you have professional experience designing/creating these things?? I feel like I'd have no clue how to go about drawing something that could then be used to bring that idea to life. It would just be some sh*tty little doodle.

It's always just been a hobby for me.  You know how it's really common for people in the US to have a corner of their garage devoted to tools and workshop stuff.  I always had access to that growing up.  I did take "shop" class for half the year (and home-ec for the other half) when I was in 7th grade.  I did much better in shop, and enjoyed it so much more.  (I do sew, and bake, and cook!  I've made clothes, and even reupholstered our campervan when we got it!  But my home-ec teacher made the subject so tedious!)

But to rationalize all the money I've spent on power tools, I've gone along with my husband's suggestion that we can build our own kitchen when we get our house to the stage where we can have one (note: my husband's entire woodworking experience can be seen in the photos I've already posted, I think!).  I might've neglected to tell him I've never done anything nearly so ambitious as a whole kitchen before (I mean, other than builders, who has?!).  But we'll figure it out.  I'd never reupholstered van seats before, and they turned out just fine.

I bet the aroma is great in there. Wood shavings and a little machine oil! Add few leather strips and a bar on industrial soap.....swooning.

I was going to suggest a wood stove, but then that would lead to an old couch and then no work gets done.

haha  Sadly, the aroma still have the occasional whiff of horse.  But it's not as bad as I worried it would be.

A wood stove would be great in the wintertime!  We will have to do something when it gets colder again.  I was miserable working out there over the winter months.  More would get done with a wood stove and a sofa than without any heat at all.  *assure*

No need to hate me!  It is 200 miles from London!  Right down the other end of the M4, pretty much.  We couldn't afford the things we wanted in England, so we moved to Wales.  (And we can barely afford it in Wales!)

Okay yes... but we go to Pembrey, which is on the opposite side of that inlet.  This is "our" beach:

I've had my kite buggy on Pembrey!  That's a big beach.  Have you ever seen people with kites on the beach?

Wait, just read in the other thread that you don't have a kitchen!

Yes, that is correct.  Priorities.  We're going to build a kitchen, though!  Eventually.  For now, this is where the magic happens:

Dude I could just eat the frosting off that thing. Been known to scarf a pot of that easy spread stuff with a spoon.

Probably weighed about ten pounds from all the buttercream. To sweet for me!!

I'm bumping this thread back up because it's a real winner.  Lovely photos of Dennis' wife while she's still pregnant

Here's my girl on the silks:

Here's the view from Torc Mountain, overlooking the beautiful lakes of Killarney

Easily worth the 2 hour hike

Not really interesting but it is a hobby....just had a chance to redo my games shelf while cleaning the house. Takes up less space now as it’s more compacted but looks cleaner

I'm probably not supposed to be amused that you left the bottom-right cubicle open, but then piled things on top, am I?  ;)  Looks great, though!  I like the vertical orientation of the shelf.  Is it made to be your choice of vertical or horizontal?

Speaking of cleaning, that reminds me... I need to get all the dust and fluff and stuff off the floor today, by whatever means necessary.  *trudge*

It's because the sofa moves in front of that (I had moved it away to vacuum and clean and reorganise the shelf but it gets moved back) and that is the least accessible shelf haha. The only shelf properly piled is the first one because those are all our card games and some are so small I just tried to stack them where I could. And Patchwork/Qwirkle which are on the top of the second cubical's games because they are too small to put elsewhere but didn't want to shove them in with the card games. Lower down the shelf you get, the least likely they are to be played. My OCD was killing me though as didn't have the space (and they are all different sizes) to order them the way I'd really like to so had to do some type of hybrid organisation.

Yes it can be your choice. My sister has one she has placed horizontally. It fit better for us in that space vertically. KALLAX is pretty much the "go to" for board game storage really but they are so good for normal storage.
