Gap in employment
« on: May 23, 2017, 02:10:26 PM »
Hi so my wife is over on a Spousal Visa (1st round) and she currently earns under 18k .. my wage tops this up so we are well above what is required. However, my company is making redundencies and although I'm confident I will find another job fairly soon (if I'm let go), I worry there may be a month or 2 'gap' where our combined income is that only of my wifes.

Am I right in thinking that when we renew the Visa, I will have to show 12 months payslips and 12 months bank statements? Or will they ask for my work info throughout the period (2.5 years) .. I'm fairly worried about this so any advice would be really helpful. Thanks.

Sorry to hear of the redundancies.

To meet the requirement, you'll need to show that combined you have:

1.  Made at least £18,600 in the previous 12 months

AND

2.  Have future earnings of at least £18,600 per year

Thanks

in the 12 months previous to the renewal?

What are future earnings classed as?.. Proof of current employment when we come to re-apply?

Yes, the 12 months prior to renewal.

Future earnings are "proven" through the employment letters stating current salary and employment type.

Hello

Just an update: I am currently unemployed (was made redundant) and my wife is earning around 16k per year.

We still have around 1 year and 3 months left on our visa. I am expecting to be working again in the next couple of months. Will this gap in employemt be an issue for me?

Also, KFdancer mentioned that we would need to prove we made £18,600 in the 12 months prior to renewal ... is this to be a consistent amount for each of these months? .. so for example, in Month 1-3 we earned £16k (my wifes wage) and months 4-12 both our wages but in TOTAL this was over 18,600.. Would this qualify? ... Hope that makes sense! .. Sorry just a bit worried and need some clarity.

Does this mean that once your spouse arrives both of your wages can count towards the required amount? (I am so stressed that I could accidentally fall pregnant and not earn enough to support us all!)

My spouse is already here and working but combined as of now we only make 16k.. this will change in the next couple of months as I'm sure I'll find employment soon.

My worry is that if I don't find a job in the next 3-4 months, and we have the 12 month count down to prove our income that we may fall short. If I find a job DURING that 12 months and overall in that 12 month period we make over 18,600k will this be OK? .. so maybe 1 or 2 of those months we earn 16k but the other months we earn enough to make it up...

Hope you can get things sorted Natoley. They make it so hard for people. Normal people who just wnat to be with their loved ones

Oh and Natoley, you were talking 'generally' sorry... Yes I'm almost 100% sure that when your spouse comes over their wages count towards the required income amount..

It doesn't have to be 12 months.. that's only if you haven't been at your job for at least 6 months at the time of applying for the next visa.

You can apply under one of the following Categories:

Cat A:
- your combined income is £18,600 or more per year
AND
- you have both been at the same job(s) earning your current salary for a minimum of 6 months

You provide:
- latest 6 months of payslips and bank statements from each job

Cat B:
- your combined income is £18,600 or more
BUT
- you have not been at your current job(s) and earning your current salary for 6 months yet

In which case, you show:
- current/future earnings of £18,600 or more
AND
- 12 months of payslips and bank statements showing TOTAL earnings of £18,600 or more in those 12 months (before tax)

If you were to fall pregnancy, UKVI looks at the six months earnings prior to the start of maternity leave.   :D
