Really love this list AV! Thanks for taking the time.

Anyone have any advice on selling your American car? It's my current obsession. It's a 06 Toyota minivan so not exactly a hot item. I'm nervous about internet scammers.

I found a Taco Bell in Nottingham and apparently there's a Dunkin' Donuts in Leeds!

My daughter has asked me to bring flamin' hot cheetos (I may need a ToR just for those, ha!)

For anyone down south, there's also a Taco Bell at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock, Essex.

Which Benadryl do you prefer/think is more effective? I like the idea of non-drowsy but if it isn't as good I'll stock up...my kids and husband are always getting bitten or allergic it seems.

It depends on the person and how they react to different antihistamines. What may work perfectly for one person may have no effect on another.

Normally, for non-drowsy antihistamines, we would mainly sell Clarityn or Zirtek with only a few people buying Benadryl. Piriton is good for insect bites and allergies, but it can cause drowsiness.

Also, just throwing this out there for anyone who is on prescriptions for mental health purposes (I am), please, please, please make sure you bring a copy of your prescription to the UK. Maybe even go to your US doctor to see if they know what prescription is best to switch to in the UK.

Some US antidepressants/anxiety medications are not available in the UK.

Fill your prescription in the USA and meet with a GP as soon as you can if this situation applies to you.

Additionally, make sure, if you wear glasses/contacts, to bring a copy of your prescription to the UK. It's just a good reference if your glasses break while abroad or you need new ones.

The things I never thought of.  ::)

Glad to do it...hope it was helpful!

Ugh. My plan is to take my car down to the local dealer and resign myself to getting a completely unfair and crappy price for it. Not much choice as I will need to sell almost instantly when my visa comes in.

And they said (at the dealer) that this period right after income taxes tends to be a lower price time for selling cars (as people spend their income tax refund to upgrade cars, creating a glut). Sigh!

I know you're joking, but just in case:

Food/beverage/OTC medications, etc. don't qualify for the ToR. ToR is only for personal belongings older than 12 months. Including any food, beverage, or medication is asking UK customs to do a physical search of your shipment. And if UK customs is like US customs, they'll hold up your package for ages AND charge you for the privilege. (Sigh!)

Also, if you are on thyroid meds. My medication is not easily prescribed here, Armour,  so my US doctor set me up with 2 years of meds. My kids get my script every month and they bring them over with them when they visit. I've got a 4 months supply with me now and they will be bringing an 8 month supply on their next visit.

My endocrinologist was quite fantastic. I'm going to miss having specialists. Or being able to pick out the best doctors.

And say goodbye to good ice. They are quite stingy with ice here. You will never get a full cup of ice again. And if you love small crunchy ice, like at Sonic, be prepared to be disappointed!

Pickles... there are dill pickles here but they aren't Kosher dills. I've been told some stores carry a Kosher dill in the American section but I've yet to find any in Scotland.

Stay away from the tinned hot dogs even if they say American Style. It's a lie. Lol

Bacon... not the same at all. You have 2 choices here. Back bacon or streaky bacon. Streaky bacon looks like American bacon but most of it is wet cured so the fat doesn't actually render out. You get this white milky fluid that comes out and it's absolutely bogging.

I now buy my bacon from the Polish shop because it is smoked and proper pork belly bacon.

I went there in January... it was such a strange experience! They have French fries- very odd. And it was SO CLOSE to American Taco Bell but not quite :(
Will probably still work when the cravings really set in hahahaha.

The fries are strange. With that mexican type taco seasoning on them. But it was different and I enjoyed them!

They also put that seasoning on their tortilla chips. Makes their nachos taste weird! Haha.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

My wife and I try and stay away from Essex as much as possible (she used to live there and had bad experiences). With the exception of Colchester tho. But knowing it's only an hour or so away means I can road trip if needed.

Have to admit that I am not a huge fan of Taco Bell so I typically opt for Five Guys. The Cinnabon, on the other hand, gets my custom every time.

Oh no! Whereabouts did she used to live? We're not all horrible, I promise!
