Ideas for Camping Food
« on: May 24, 2017, 11:03:10 AM »

We are staying in a Air BNB tent this weekend:

Anyone got any ideas for dinner and breakfast?  We'll have a burner and a few pots and pans.

For sure we are going to roast marshmallows and make s'mores but I'm looking for something different and easy.

Ideas?

I know you said dinner and breakfast but I have to share this one because I want to try it myself so badly! haha http://hip2save.com/2016/06/10/campfire-cones-fun-easy-summer-dessert-2/

I have a few things saved on my Pinterest board. You should honestly check out Pinterest and just do a search for "camp food". There are tons of easy but decent recipes!

Here's a breakfast one http://www.myorganizedchaos.net/2016/06/bbq-breakfast-scrambler and here's a link to some "make ahead" things https://www.brit.co/make-ahead-camping-meals/

Have fun! I love camping! We got a pretty cool tent and some decent camping kit but have only gone twice since getting the tent! Hope we go many more times this summer!

Thanks!  You guys are great .

I'm definitely doing the campfire cones, looks easier than s'mores and the kids aren't sticklers for tradition, they just want maximum sugar

No worries :) I just found pinterest had TONS of great ideas on it that makes campfire cooking way less stressful (we are always last minute "grab groceries on the way" people so never prepped enough! haha).

Take pictures of how the cones come out (I never trust the perfect looking pinterest models!) and let me know how it goes as I will eventually try this myself! haha You can mix it up too and kind of add what you want in there and having them pre-assembled means even LESS work once you're actually there so more time to just relax (and it means they are reading to go right there and then when you want them!)

I just spent 4 nights camping in Georgia and did not cook a single meal.  Seriously, there was a Diary Queen 10 minutes away.  And a place that served grits for breakfast.

We have a tent and sometimes go camping but it requires something like 4 solid hours of preparation.  Lately we've been lazy and doing stuff like this Air BNB tent.

In fairness, I think the AirBnB tent stuff is probably just easier in the long run which means you're more likely to want to do it because - even though it's the same effect and you're paying for it , it's less overall stress so is more inviting! haha

Oh I'm useless to this thread.

I camped a lot growing up because that was pretty much the only holiday we could afford (to spend a weekend 10 minutes from home in a tent), and my Mom cooked amazing things like campfire stew, bbq chicken, pancakes and bacon, baked potatoes, and bog standard things like hot dogs and hamburgers.  Nowadays, my camping forays only happen at music festivals. And alas, there's no real food involved at music festivals, just tins of warm cider and smoked sausage  ;D

Actually, hubby (before he was my hubby) and I did go Glamping once. We ate things like tinned curries and drank copious amounts of red wine (from a box) to save on needing anything chilled.  Classy.

Don't sell yourself short P.B.! Glamping? That OOZES class! That is a whole step up! haha

my favourite thing about camping is that it can make for a very cheap holiday. When/if I have kids, I think there will be a lot of camping trips because it's cheaper and I love the idea of getting kids out in nature.

I bet some smoked porter would go down a treat next to the campfire

If it were up to me, it would have been in a tent on a cheap air mattress. But J needed to sleep somewhere a bit more comfortable. LOL.  It was a compromise to even go glamping at all, instead of staying in a B&B hahahha.......
