So I was playing a gig yesterday and was ravenous between sets. The only food available at said gig were hot dogs/chilli dogs.  So I got a chilli dog. I immediately regretted that decision.
Tinned hot dogs and tinned chilli, lukewarm at best.  [smiley=puke.gif] So mushy as well!  A pile of cheese and jalapenos didn't rescue it either. I spent the rest of the evening chugging several litres of water - so much sodium!!
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I went to the kid's school fair on Saturday.  I'm never going again, it is so miserable.  They always have a stand with overpriced hamburgers and hot dogs that taste like crap with barely any condiments.  The only reason the kids want to go is because they can binge on candy.   My wife likes to volunteer at the face painting so she makes sure we never miss one.

I've told the family that next year I am dropping them off and then going to the pub for lunch.  They can join me there when finished.

Rant over, carry on as usual.

Phatbeetle, that hot dog sounded just fine and you never see chill here.  With some live music and beer, I'd be up for it.

From the Article: "Nationally popular pork-beef specimens like red hots, Vienna sausages, Coneys and weenies wouldn’t have a chance."

Who would even consider Vienna Sausages in a hot dog test?  VS are the size of your big toe and covered with mystery gel.  Not hard to figure out that's not a hot dog.

Hello Phatbeetle, you might have noticed the lack of boiling the hot dogs in sugar!  You owe me a beer!

Hahahahaha!  ;D

We had hot dogs (costco all beef ones) for a bbq last week with DH's family and they were all like, "huh, we don't get beef hot dogs here much do we?" Grrrrrr...

That could be it!   ;D ;D

Spoiler: show
Yes, I do owe you a beer. I've not forgotten, and I have one pulled aside for you, I just suck at making it to the post office.

Aside from tinned hot dogs, it turns out you can get tinned burgers too...... Mmmm...connective tissue!

Has anyone tried Polish hot dogs?

I had a look one day as they're all in packs, not jars or cans (yuck). I dared to look at the ingredients and was actually impressed with one brand...dark red and black packet...can't remember the name for the life of me! For me, they're the best ones you can get in shops here (aside from the beef hot dogs from Costco, of course!)

I remember the Chock full o'Nuts hotdogs in Manhattan in the late 60s- sort of an odd rectangular (ie straight lines, not curved) bun. Delicious. I still can't figure out which are the best hotdogs in the UK. Gotta be beef though. Doug

Apparently it's national hot dog day.  From my local news, it made me immediately think of this thread! http://buffalonews.com/2017/07/19/whats-ex-pat-got-get-decent-hot-dog/

I didn’t manage to have good hot dogs when I was just back home (tried Sonic chili cheese dog and Speedway gas station hot dogs) except for when I made my own at home, I used Nathan's. I also love Hebrew National but they weren't on sale. Lol

Hehe. Well, I'm partial to Zweigle's white hots or Sahlens. But there are quite a few good hot dog places around here!
