I've lived in this area for about 4 years now, before I lived in central Oregon (more specifically Redmond) for about 13 years. At least here on the coast I am used to the rain. It rains for a solid 9 months, from the start of fall to the end of spring nothing but rain, rain, rain.

Oh come on.....I grew up in SW WA....owned a little place near Long Beach WA (kind of Ocean Park area)..... but this commercial still does it for me.....  If I hadn't moved back here for good.....I'd be more than happy to move to the Lincoln City area, at least if I could afford (questionable) a nice place near the beach. Maybe like this little place.....https://www.johnlscott.com/search/place/ChIJd712C3aN6lQRYugsfWoOU3E

It's also an energy thing. I've never used a dryer in the UK, but from what I've been told, the dryers you do find in the UK tend to not use as much energy, so they take longer and they don't get clothes fully dry so they'll still need to be hung for a bit. You do find some washer/dryer combos (both in one machine), but I've heard mixed reviews.

When my husband told the in-laws we were getting married, they gifted him a tumble dryer because I was American and needed such things. Bless their hearts  ;D ;D ;D It takes 3 hours to complete a cycle and the clothes - as said - don't actually fully dry. It's close enough for most things that I just hang them up and let them air dry the last bit. On the other hand, my husband says his power consumption went up about 80% after starting to, you know, actually do laundry more than every other week.

I travelled for two years, living out of a backpack. I didn't want to splurge on laundromats and couldn't be bothered to find one in each place I went. I carried liquid hand washing soap with me and hand washed all my clothes in the sink. Whenever I stayed somewhere with a free washer, I took full advantage of it and washed as much as I could, even if I hadn't worn it since washing it by hand. ;)

When I first moved here I really was adamant that I needed a tumble dryer. My husband did go and get us one. I feel like I barely use it now! I use it when I'm too lazy to hang clothes up on the clotheshorse or when it's not nice enough to hang the clothes outside (mainly used in winter really). I was surprised by how quickly I went from shocked to thinking I wouldn't have one accessible in my home to having one and barely using it! In future though, I would like my next house (or some house in my future) to have a laundry-specific space. There are still houses around my area that have utility rooms (I know somebody here was asking if homes still had them - can't remember who I just remember seeing it) but not sure if it depends on where you live maybe?

My current apartment is a 1 mile walk to the ocean, I can hear the crash of the waves every night. It's pretty cool. You have actually highlighted the area in Lincoln City that I live in. 😂

On a side note, I love how this post got so many responses. Thank you all for all of your help.

All you guys with dryers, please check which models have been recalled and do everything you can to minimise fire risk.  There have been tons of house fires caused by faulty dryers and the government is being lazy about forcing them to fix the issue .

I wear a lot of silk blouses to work and I can ONLY hand wash or dry clean them.  I don't think hand washing is too bad though, especially when I have several to do at once.

Oh man..you can tell how lazy I am as I will avoid anything that requires too much specialised washing techniques (I just know I would never be bothered to hand wash haha)

Haha!  I have to wear a suit for work now so my pretty blouses are the one fun thing I get to wear to work!
