Hi,

Got a timely update for this thread today!

Dubai gang messaged me laughing that temps in the UK in the 30-33'ish Degrees C range and it's a heatwave for a few days! They are looking at temps of ....

64 Degrees C next week !!

Actual temp will be in the 50's but with humidity it'll 'feel' 64!

Around Phoenix AZ, it's like 45-48 Degrees C this week...

Typical UK thing, moan when it's cold, moan when it's 'warm'..  it'd be fun to take those people to a 'hot' country !!

Cheers! DtM! West London & Slough UK!

The thing that makes the 'hot' weather here is lack of ways to make it cooler inside.  We obviously don't have AC (didn't in NY either) but we also don't have any ceiling fans either, in this flat and in any other we've lived in.  I picked us up some little ones from wilko but they're not very good and we have nowhere to put them at night.  I think in our case we're getting used to having a place with windows on three sides, including the south, so we get a LOT of sunlight.

But I'm guessing it'll be a lot nicer in this flat in the winter than our old flat, so we've got water in the ice tray and cold drinks in the fridge.

I thought about getting ceiling fan/light combos for the bedrooms in the house we live in now but then thought "not really worth spending that much extra money because we'll barely use it."  Had I known we would be heat waving, I would have considered the investment a bit more. Husband and I ended up with a tower fan as well that does the trick but if we had my family over, they would be screwed as it seems fans are out of stock everywhere at the moment (unless you want to pay triple the price!). I know you can get AC units here as I believe they were going to get my MIL one but they are quiteeeee expensive which is hard to justify when you don't know how often it will be used. But I completely agree with you! It's not so much the heat as it is the fact that there's not many ways around it!

You guys do realise that this heatwave is likely to be over tomorrow and that's going to be our ENTIRE summer .  It could be cold and grey until Christmas.

It's not over tomorrow just because it's rainy. My app says that the high is still 25 tomorrow then 23 Friday and then low to mid 20's Saturday and into next week LOL It will just be more tolerable because it's cloudy but not over.

It will end just in time for me to go down to England next week for a week and a bit. I suspect the weather will be shite for my time down there. Because that's my luck.

The way it's looking now is cloudy and partly cloudy, but you never really know. It could change at the drop of a hat and be absolutely pissing it down or total sunshine LOL

I spent most of the day at a softplay place (torture chamber for adults).  We went for the a/c!  I'll use that trick again.

Jimbo, yes, I know this will all end soon and that we will have survived Summer 2017.  And I will b*tch then too!   ;D

My little backpack for my walk to work is now half filled with items to make myself presentable once I arrive. Whoever invented dry shampoo is a genius - no more sitting around with damp underhair all day and feeling gross!

But seriously, enough of this. Monday when there was no breeze was horrible at night. Sunday we went out and got a big *bleep* off fan for downstairs and thats been helping. Last night wasn't too bad once the breeze kicked in. Tonight its going to be a dehumidifier night and just be thankful to be done with this tomorrow.

Other Half has been thrilled that with our move two months ago his commute changed from jubilee and central to district only (with a short walk both ends).

I told my husband to get an AC because even for such short heatwaves I still need one or will be spending time checked into the hospital. *sigh* He hasn't yet, and instead has suffered with no sleep instead. Every time I've been to the UK in the summer it's been crazy hot, maybe it was just luck? Thankfully the hotels I stayed in had AC and thanks to flight prices I didn't make it there in the middle of summer often.

I don't think that it's that it doesn't get hot here in summer often, it's just that it doesn't normally last for very long so it's hard to justify buying an actual AC over a fan (as they cost over £500 - some are closer to £1k!)
