First BRP question
« on: June 25, 2017, 02:47:38 PM »
Hi guys. Quick one. This FLR(M) will be my first BRP. I have an in-person appointment, so I know I will not get it at the appointment. I think its 7-10 days in the mail. Anywho....do I need to provide an envelope for the BRP like how we have to provide a return envelope for the application? If not, how will it be posted? Will it require a signature upon delivery? I am thinking of putting my in-laws' address as the address for all correspondence because my husband and I are usually out of the house all day and there is always someone home there.
Thanks for the help. :-)

It will be delivered by DX Courier service. You will need ID and a signature upon delivery.

You do not need to provide any shipping material.

The BRP will be delivered by Dx.  You do not need to provide postage.

Depends on the driver.  They are supposed to only deliver to you with proof of ID.  But sometimes they just put it through the mail slot.  It's a lottery!

I actually got a letter in the post from DX saying they were unable to deliver to me (a lie as I had been home all week) and for me to arrange a delivery date with them.

Oh no! What will happen then? I will definitely NOT be home. I'm going to be on a project for work that will be a long commute and will not be home till after 7pm if not later. Can we designate an alternate to sign for it? My husband maybe? Or set up a specific day and time so that I can take a day off from work to be there? What happens if they can't deliver it? Does it go somewhere that I can pick it up?

You'll be fine.  They may want your husband to have your ID available.  Doesn't make sense but everyone ends up with their BRP some way or another!

For a £6 fee, you can set up a specific redelivery time if you get notification of a missed delivery or for free you can just pick the day but with an all day delivery window.

Husband signed for mine with no issues (both packages as we applied by post).

We've been lucky I was home for my first and this time he was home. It was bad luck he had a broken leg, but it helped with the BRP.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

OK. Its way easier for my husband to get it as he can arrange to work from home if necessary. Thanks so much!

I looked at DX website to try to find out about Saturday delivery options. Said it was available for some instances. I sent them a query about my case. I did find on the FAQ page saying that a proxy can sign for the delivery of a british passport if they have a signed letter of authorization from the passport owner. I would think it would be the same with a brp. Hopefully. Will provide one and my passport to my husband just in case.
They do say 7-10 days, but I think I have seen people say as little as three days? That would be awesome. I just want all of this done.

I replied on your other post but I will repeat here.

I missed our first delivery attempt.  We were able to reschedule delivery on another day at another address with no issues or additional cost.  It was just Saturday delivery that cost extra.

They did say that the package would require a signature and IDs of both the addressee and the person signing for the package.  My MIL signed but didn't need to show the ID (she even asked).

If you're worried, have it delivered to your in-laws.
