Topic: Cost of using Pet Relocation company vs. doing it your self  (Read 2247 times)

I received a quote from a pet relocation company.  The total would be about $3700 for 2 small dogs.  Here is the breakdown.  Does anyone know which of these fees I would save by doing it myself?


EU Certificate & Int'l Health Certificate Preparation (7001) with USDA Endorsement & Courier Service                                    $298.00   
Health Certificate - Additional Pet      $50.00   
Internal Parasite Treatment - 2 Small Dog   $70.00
International Air Cargo Fares          $1,860.00   
Int'l Air Cargo IAD (Dulles, VA) to GLA (Glasgow, Scotland)

They are charging $695 so that's what you would save doing it yourself.   :)

Those are required.  The estimate seems quite reasonable.  Typically $1500-$2000 per animal depending on the size and if traveling to major city or further afield.

It's an area you can save some money, but depends on how many other items you are juggling if you feel confident doing it yourself or not.  When I moved, I was on my own.  I had to find somewhere to live within 30 days and figure out transport (for me).  The last thing I wanted was the stress of moving my fur babies.  So for me, a relocation company was the right way to go.

there isn't a huge amount of money to be saved by doing it yourself and tons more stress.  just get a few quotes from companies and compare prices. 
To us it made sense take the Queen Mary 2 because we could do everything at once.  they don't limit you on the amount of luggage you take on board so that was the deciding factor.
