Costs/ideas for shipping out of Chicago
« on: July 23, 2017, 11:09:29 AM »
My wife is looking to start arrangements for shipping her possessions to Felixstowe later this year. We are still visaless at present. Any thoughts and suggestions on good shippers or pitfalls to avoid much appreciated

I used Pickens Kane a few months ago and had an excellent experience.

We used Rainier, their cheap "slow boat" option. It cost us about $5K, with a complete international wrap and pack of our stuff, for two 200cu ft containers and part of a 100cu ft container. Rainier sub-contracted with Sullivan in San Diego and Britannia on the other end.  Took  2.5 months to get here, almost to the day of the estimated delivery quote.  Recommend them highly - transparent and helpful, start to finish.

We also used the slow option but can't feedback on that yet as has only just been shipped. Our one had to be dropped off that end on site, but is being delivered to door this end. We had not realised they need to see passport (or copy) and visa sticker in order to ship. At least ours did. There is also TOR - transfer of residence form to complete and send so you don't get taxed on your stuff through customs. (Just in case you haven't come across that yet). You have to include a rough list of what is being shipped. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-for-transfer-of-residence-tor-relief-tor01
