Bizarre experience at London Open Day
« on: September 18, 2017, 01:59:56 PM »

Yesterday was the London Open Day where you can go and visit many London landmarks that are usually closed to the public.  We went to this mausoleum that was built by some crazy old rich guy

https://www.environmenttrust.co.uk/kilmorey-mausoleum

What I didn't expect was that they would open the doors and let people mingle with the hundred and fifty year old coffins!

Talk about spooky!

Thanks for the compliment.  We are perpetual tourists.

They do Open Day London once or twice a year and there’s hundreds of things open that wouldn’t normally be.  Cross rail tunnels and the Battersea power station are next on my list .

Note that there’s tons of steam pumping stations as well .

We used to go in for the open days each year.  Really great!  Always in September.

We apply each year for 10 Downing Street but only 100 people get in.  We haven't been lucky enough yet!

I've been back and met one of the guys out front guarding 10 Downing street. He was a really nice guy. My friend is friends with a London police officer and he has connections.

It's so quiet back there. I wanted to hang out for awhile.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

They do the same in Glasgow... I keep meaning to go, but never quite get around to it.

Sometimes they run tours through the village under Glasgow Central Station http://www.grahamston.com/

In Edinburgh there are tours through Mary Kelly's Close https://www.realmarykingsclose.com/plan-your-visit/opening-times-prices/
