TAQUITOS!!!

The taquitos at Tastee Freez, with the avocado dip were my favourite food as a nipper.

If I had corn tortillas, I would make some tonight!  Can't see me getting to Lupe Pintos this weekend, so I will  need to do a Mex Grocer order, I think.

I ordered four avocados this week.  FOUR!  They are all gone now.  Mygawd, I eat more guacamole now than I ever did in the US.

You are right on trend!  Avocados 🥑 are so hot right now they can’t grow them fast enough.

Helpful hint: if you are doing an emergency landing in a farmer’s field, avoid avacado plants at all costs.  They are worth a fortune because they have to grow a long time before they produce.

I am in California right now on vacation and this thread reminded me to pull into a market somewhere and get a press. We've been making our own corn tortillas the last few months and the taste difference is amazing. But I really want proper round ones!

I hate being on trend.  That just runs the price up for me.  On the other hand, it does mean the food moves fast enough that Tesco won't decide avocados aren't worth having in their product line.  They discontinued Walker's crinkles salt&vinegar crisps!  I can't have been the only one buying those...?

Did you see we are getting an Avo Avo restaurant in Glasgow at the end of October?

I'm so excited. I hope it is up to the same standards as the restaurant in Amsterdam.

I loved them too. I still get the ready salted ones!
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

I finally cracked.
Rick Stein's current TV series is about a road trip along the California & Baja California coast, and the food of the regions.

Somewhere between Tijuana and Popotla (where my aunt had a beach-side caravan we used to holiday in), I pressed the 'buy' button on Mex Grocer's website.  Sometime tomorrow I will take delivery of a kilo of masa meal and a tortilla press.  It wont be as pretty as JFK's press, but I can't wait for my fresh corn tortillas!

I'm still looking for a recipe with the ratio for good corn tortilla flavour, but more of a flour tortilla texture.  If you have any recipes to share, I welcome them!  :)

Www.mexgrocer.co.uk, but it seems to be out of stock at the moment.  I think I ended up ordering mine from Amazon.co.uk, for slightly less cost after you factor in shipping.

Since we have not perfected the balance for flour & corn tortillas to give us the same result as the Wahaca ones we used to buy, we have been really sad that Tesco stopped selling them.  But last week when I was doing the shopping, they had some Wahaca "kits" that contained a package of our favourite tortillas in them.  They're stupidly priced and contain marinade and salsa packets that we probably won't ever use, but one of the flavours was on offer for £2.50, and it was a way to get the tortillas again.

So I bought a kit.  And we had our Mexican platter using our favourite Wahaca tortillas on Saturday night.   My husband took a bite first, and the look on his face... he actually looked sad, so I thought the kit ones were somehow different and he was disappointed.  But, no... he was just so happy, yet sad because he knew we couldn't justify buying these kits every week, so this was a fleeting thing.  But, man... that was a good Mexican platter.  I mean, the platter is usually good, but those tortillas are the best!
