Wife needing to go back to USA
« on: October 06, 2017, 11:40:52 AM »
Hello,

My wife is currently living in the UK on a Spouse visa, we recently just applied to extend her visa for the further 2.5 years. She has just received news that her grandfather has passed away and would like to go back for the funeral. The only problem is that her passport is still in Sheffield with the application.

Any ideas on how she can travel back next week to attend the funeral?

Thanks.

If you post this on the visas board, you might get a response.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but others will.

I can tell you what worked for me in a similar circumstance:

https://uk.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/u-s-passports/emergency-passports/primary-passport-held-uk-visas-immigration-foreign-embassy/

It’s pretty straightforward, if you meet the requirements they give you another passport .  The trouble is that the new passport doesn’t have any UK visas in it and when she comes back to the UK she’s might have problems.  I was able to bring copies of all my paperwork and explain that I actually did have a visa in another passport and it was fine.  However, I wasn’t on a fiancé visa so can’t really say.

It’s going to be pretty expensive all around.  Perhaps she could miss the funeral and go back to the states for Christmas?

Just saw your other post.  Listen to what KFDancer says.  She knows a thousand times more about this than I do.

You are in the UK using the EU rules (we think - until you get your SAR ;) ). UK Immgration rules and the EEA Regulations are two different sets of rules and are not interchangeable.
