Spousal Visa and marriage license
« on: October 17, 2017, 06:35:32 PM »
So I just got married this past week in the US .. I'm a us citizen and my husband a UK citizen .. and I'm wondering do I need a certified copy of the marriage license,  The original copy of the license or just a regular copy of the marriage license to send into Sheffield ?!
Also with the divorce papers  from previous marriages , do I need to send in  The original copies or just copies ?
Thank you again for anyone's time who can help !!!! This form is amazing 😊

Congratulations on your marriage :).

To note, it's the marriage CERTIFICATE you need, not the marriage LICENCE. They are two different things.

The marriage licence is what you get before the wedding, to show you have permission to marry. It's the marriage certificate that is issued once you are married... and that's what you need for the visa

You should send a photocopy (in addition to the original) of everything which you want returned.

Congrats! thank you al for the information!

Question for the group. If my british fiance comes over to the US for a legal marriage and we apply  immediately after for a spouse visa for me to join her in the UK, will it raise suspicion by applying right away?

Looking at the times lines for priority spouse visas it seems like the spouse visa approvals are taking several months while some of the priority fiance visas are coming back in several weeks. what is the best guess wait time for a spouse visa  (from the US) being submitted this month/next month?

2014: engaged in Grand Canyon
10/29/2017: fiance visa application sending priority

You can apply right away, as soon as you have your marriage certificate in hand (assuming you meet the other criteria). It's commonly done and will not cause any suspicion.

There is no difference between processing times of fiancé and spouse visas, they are treated exactly the same in Sheffield.
What does make a difference is whether or not you choose to pay for priority service and also the timing of the application. Some later applicants have been processed sooner than ones waiting longer that were stuck in the summer logjam.

Now is a good time to be applying, the summer rush is over and the Christmas one has not started yet.  :)

Nope, not at all. Many people do it this way.

As long as you can prove the relationship is genuine (by showing you've met, and that you communicate regularly), there will be no suspicion

No, fiance and spousal visas have the exact same processing times - there is no distinction between them.

The only thing that makes any difference to the processing time is whether you pay for priority or not.

Over the summer, during the busy backlog period, both fiance visas and spousal visas were taking about 6 weeks priority and about 12 weeks non-priority.

However, now that they are clearing the backlog, priority visas are taking 1-2 weeks (or less). Not sure about non-priority though.

Regarding compiling documents:
If my fiancé comes over to the US for a weekend to get married, Could I send back  all my documents  with her physically (including my passport) for her to compile with her documents and then submit to Sheffield from London?

(Providing the biometric and online application are done in the correct timeframe) Does anyone see any issues with this?

You could do that.  You could also have her bring her documents to the US then add yours and send them from there. That's the conventional way of doing it.
