I have never had a flu shot in my 47 years nor have I ever had the flu. I'm guessing it's all my years of eating copious amounts of chile, menudo and tripa tacos (am I right, jimbocz?!) that has kept it away. I do have my share and a few other people's share of stomach bugs over the years (I am suffering one now) but that's expected with the above food.

I'm sorry you're not well Nan D. I hope you feel better soon.

Immunologist and vax science geek here-get your flu shot, all of you!!!!  Even if it doesn’t fully protect you, it will decrease the severity if you DO get the flu. Plus, herd immunity-there are old folks, babies, and immunocompromised people who need you to be a flu shot hero!

It's taken over my house. Husband was home sick with it last Friday (still ill, i think in oart to him being immuncompromised) and I've been home sick with it since Monday. So lovely.

I have had more coughs here than I ever did in the US.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Same for me.
If I have ever had flu, I certainly don't remember it.

You'd remember it.  I had it when I was 15.  I remember laying on my parents sofa and talking to God.  I told him if it was my time to die, that was fine!  The flu is MISERABLE!

Sounds right to me!  Especially if you meant tripe tacos, sign me up!

I got mine on Monday!  During flu season I encounter many children at work so it was mandatory.  Did you get any side effects?  I felt unnaturally sluggish and achey until like, maybe lunchtime today.  I think it must be the jab.

So does one just phone their GP and ask for a flu shot?

Like most things...  it’ll depend on your area and GP.  But yes!

My husband and kids qualify for them on the NHS and they get a letter in August/September telling them to call and book for one of the “clinics”.

If you don’t qualify for one on the NHS, most pharmacies do them.  Asda is the cheapest at £5.

Not so far!  :). My arm's a little achey but apart from that, I wouldn't know that I'd had it. Barely felt it going in either which was nice because I'm a bit of a wimp with needles!

Me too. I nearly cried going in but I barely felt it.

I had a voucher from work. But I had it done at aLloyd's pharmacy inside Sainsburys. Didn't need to call my gp at all.
