Make your own cranberry sauce! So much better than store bought.

I love my Ocean Spray!  I went to two Thanksgiving parties this weekend and bust it out.  I’m not even ashamed!   ;D

Jar?  Not tin?  But that means no tin rings...!  How do you cope?   :o

I’m fine without the rings.

My mom isn’t....   ::)

I absolutely love cast iron. I'm sad I had to leave all of mine behind. I had quite the large collection of Dutch ovens, skillets, bacon press, grill pans, etc.

I grew up with "non-stick coating" and my parents abused that stuff... I can't even guess how much Teflon I must've eaten as a child.  Getting back to the basics is so nice.  Cast iron is wonderful if you treat it right.

hehe  I don't know my dad's opinion of the rings, but he did insist on a tin of the stuff every year.

I've found recipes where you let it gel in a clean tin! All the lines, none of the weird preservatives etc.

I wonder how a Dutch oven would work in The Pizza Oven?  Apart from the metaphysical questions of having an oven in an oven, would it be gentler and more like the oven in your house?

The Uuni website has a cast iron "casserole" pan, so I'm thinking it would work.

For our turkey, we just covered it with foil until the last few minutes.   Then we uncovered it and topped the fire up with some wood, which burns hotter than the charcoal we used during the roasting, to give the skin a nice crisp.

Do you have outdoor space for one?  They come in various sizes, and start fairly reasonably priced (admittedly, it is a pretty specific-purpose thing for the price, so it's not the most practical purchase unless you plan to use it a lot... it's going to take us a while to justify the price, but we don't mind... our priorities are so screwed up, it's no wonder we have no kitchen!).  I got the big one because ...well... we could always cook small things in a big oven, but you can't cook big things in a small oven.  We didn't want to have regret later.  But if you've got a patio of any size at all, and a bit of cash, you can have an awesome wood-fired* pizza oven, too!

(Ours is quad-fuel... it can take gas (separate burner purchase required), wood pellets, charcoal, or actual wood, or a combination of charcoal and wood, which is what we did for the turkey).
