Beginning online application-Visa Sub Type Questions
« on: November 24, 2017, 04:41:05 AM »
I'm applying to join my husband in the UK. So I chose settlement on both the Reason for Visit and Visa Type. Then it asks for visa sub-type. There are two relevant options; one for wife, and one for marriage. Which is the correct one? For the marriage one, a dialog box pops up and says the only form I have to complete is a "Sponsorship Undertaking Form". For the wife one, it says I have to fill out Appendix 2(which I know I have to do) and the Sponsorship Undertaking form IF you are a dependent or parent(which I'm not so I can ignore that?)

If you are already married, you choose Wife (which means you are applying for a spousal visa)

If you are engaged and planning to marry in the UK, you choose Marriage (which means you are applying for a fiancé visa).

Appendix 2 is needed regardless of which one you choose... it’s the main bulk of the application form for both fiancé and spousal visas. They cannot process your application without it as it will be considered an incomplete application.

The Sponsorship Undertaking Form is NOT required for either a fiancé or a spousal visa (it’s only for special circumstances visas - namely adult/elderly dependant relative visas).

Thanks so much! I figured it was wife but I thought it was strange they had both wife and marriage.

Yeah, a lot of people get confused.

The Wife/Husband option is for people who are applying as the Wife or Husband of a UK citizen. The Marriage option is for people coming to the UK for the purpose of marrying a UK citizen.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that there is actually no such visa as a fiancé visa. The official name for a fiancé visa is the ‘Marriage Visa’.

So the two visa types are:
- Spousal Visa
Or
- Marriage Visa
