Gift Ideas Thread
« on: November 30, 2017, 10:34:35 AM »
Inspired by a comment in a book thread, I thought maybe a gift idea thread would be helpful for some people. Feel free to post any cool gift ideas (or even cool DIY gift ideas) or ask for some unique ideas. I'm at work at the moment so just putting this here as a marker but I'm sure I'll be back looking for ideas by this afternoon :)

I got my husband a drone at Costco for ~£20.  I figured that's as much money as I'm willing to watch fly off into the sun and never come back.   ;D  They are cheaper in store as they add in shipping costs to the online prices.

I also bought him a fancy sparkly bottle of Arsenal vodka.  He won't drink the vodka but it'll look nice in the Arsenal room.

Did I hear someone asking about my specialist subject?  kites?

Here's a perfect gift for the budding kite flyer :

I would recommend the 2.5 meter size, or maybe the 1.5 for a small kid.

This is a four line power kite, so it will require a bit of skill to fly and do tricks with, but it's certainly easy enough for a beginner.

hahahaha yes! I can imagine!

My latest concern is how I order things on Amazon with our prime account when it's under my husband's name -_-  He will get emails on EVERYTHING I order and I won't get a change to hide them or delete them from his email before he sees! haha

Just use your own non prime account. Shipping is free with a minimum £20 pound purchase and if you're buying in good time, it won't matter that it takes a few days to arrive. Or you can upgrade for a fee. :)

I've been soo spoiled by prime it actually hurts hahaha If I don't get a package within a day I'm outraged! It's totally a first world problem...LOL

Didn't realise everything is free shipping if over £20, I thought it varied and the shipping is what was concerning to me so I will definitely look to do it with my non-prime account, thanks!

Not everything is eligible for free shipping over £20, but most things are (I guess like not everything is eligible for Prime shipping either).

Or you can get free shipping if you spend £10 or more on books (and then anything else you buy on top of that in the same order will also have free shipping).

Isn't that only free for the things dispatched by Amazon?  Every time I try to get free shipping there's some small print that stops it from actually happening.

Yes but nearly everything I've purchased qualifies for Prime. I've been spoiled with getting my items next day to the point that when they weren't offering it on black Friday (as I needed something for Sunday) I didn't end up ordering.

Yes, it's not the same for marketplace sellers but any time I get anything from Amazon itself and I make £20, I've had free shipping.

Be careful with which postage option you choose, you need to pick "free delivery". It defaults to "standard delivery" because they hope you won't notice and will pay the extra for shipping.
