Candy in the UK
« on: December 15, 2017, 03:04:04 PM »
Hi Guys,

I'm American, well dual citizen, and I recently moved back to England after spending most of my life in the US.

Trying to find a job in the UK just wasn't what I expected. I sent out over 2,000 job applications in the first 6 months of moving back and just wasn't getting traction because all my experience is from the US.  I would have thought that would have been a positive but no matter how I positioned it, it was always looked at as a negative.  That was a huge surprise for me.

Anyway, fast forward another 6 months and I recently opened an American Candy store online, USA Delights. Talk about a learning curve. Anyway, I just wanted to reach out and introduce myself and put my candy store out there into this Food forum. I apologize if this post should should be elsewhere on the site.

Thanks for reading.  I'd love to hear from you.

Chris

Hi, do you have a website? You have a competitor in American Fizz, which has a pretty good selection but is pricey. I'm always willing to try a new place especially if the prices are competitive :)

Hi!  I do, thanks for asking.  It's www.usadelights.com

They are one of the big players.  I'm hoping to break into the top 5-10 in the coming year, at which point, I will be able to offer much better pricing than they do.

Currently, and admittedly, my prices are around the same as them, maybe even a little higher because I'm not quite at their volume yet.  This part sucks as I wanted to beat all those guys on pricing.  As soon as my volume increases and I realize more economic efficiency, I'll be coming for them.

Thanks for reaching out!

Good luck!! The job hunt is terrifying to every immigrant even with in demand skills, so many stories like yours where no one will give you the time of day because you were previously based in the US.

I need Kool Aid liquid water additives.  Can you get that?

I will take a look to see.  Right now we only have the powdered mix.

Yeah, I can get that here already but no one carries the liquid additives. My husband is addicted to the watermelon and grape flavor and he has to wait for my kids to bring them over. Lol

OR I would gladly take the sugar free packets. I can't find those either.

Looks like the US has gotten it's equivalent of squash. Interesting.

Except they tend to all be full of aspartame... Isn't squash sugary?

Can be, but most of the diluting juice /squash you get nowadways is the 'no sugar added' kind.
