Homemade everything is the best!
« on: December 20, 2017, 08:07:33 PM »
I am just really excited and wanted to share... my husband and I officially don't exchange gifts at Christmas (though we kind of super-sneaky do, and then we get annoyed with each other for breaking our pact), but I do paint (watercolour) a card for him for various special occasions throughout the year (his birthday and/or our anniversary which are five days apart, Christmas, the day before Valentine's Day--which I think is called Potato Day...?, etc.).  I have just finished this year's Christmas/New Year's card and I'm wanting to share it someplace where he won't see it (so Facebook is out!).

I know it's not technically brilliant, but it conveys what I want to convey, so it's successful. Yay!

(Domo only says "domo", but it means "Merry Christmas! ... and a HAPPY new year!")

Your birthday is on Potato Day*?!  You're so lucky!  Do you eat lots of potatoes to celebrate?

* Potato Day may or may not be an actual thing... my husband and I love potatoes, and the first time we bought a 25kg sack of potatoes, we celebrated Potato Day, which also fell right around Valentine's Day.  My cards usually reflect whatever is going on around the time that I make them, because I don't really have original ideas.

You are living well!

My local Tesco has (had?) 2.5kg bags of Welsh "white potatoes" on offer for 29p each.  Last week I bought 10 (25kg of potatoes for £2.90!).  This week I bought 5 more.  My husband brought home some burlap sacks to transfer them into, so now I have three burlap sacks of potatoes to get us through the next couple of months.  Hopefully, the burlap will prevent sprouting.

I love this!!!
LOOOOOOOOVE!!!!!!!!

Aww, thanks!  Of course, I love it, but I'm biased.  Domo and the Zombies are family to us.  :)

Burlap and somewhere cool and dark should keep your potatoes going.  Check them regularly and toss out any that are becoming soft/rotten. (With an allotment, you get a lot of potatoes)

Love your artwork ,it's cute and personal!
I've never gotten food on my underpants!
Work permit (2007) to British Citizen (2014)
You're stuck with me!

Ah, thanks, PB!  We will move the potatoes out to the shed, then, and just keep a few at a time in the house ready to be used.

Thanks!  I'm really looking forward to my husband seeing it.  :)

I showed the card to my card-crafting neighbor/friend, and she said exactly what I hoped she'd say: "This is really nice, but a little glitter..."  Eeee!  She's bringing a glue pen and some iridescent glitter over tomorrow afternoon so I can make the tree sparkle.

Sorry about the microplastics, animals.  I promise I won't use glitter again after this one.  :(

OOoooh... obviously, the mobilizing animated sack of potatoes won't care, but I can imagine how sweet that will be for your daughter!  I love this age when they still believe in magic.  Plus, SPARKLIES!
