The Book!
« on: January 04, 2018, 05:35:21 PM »
So, you may have heard that there's a book coming out by a journalist who had unfettered access to the Trump White House for the past year.  Today, the author published a column in the Hollywood Reporter in which he describes some of his experiences and observations while writing the book.  Trump supporters should avoid both this column and the book.

I'm pretty sure the publisher did not print enough in the initial run.  This one is likely to sell out, from all the attention it's getting.  It doesn't hurt that one of Trump's lawyers has today sought to block the book from being released.  That's the kind of PR money can't buy.

Whoops.  That didn't go well for Trump.  http://money.cnn.com/2018/01/04/media/michael-wolff-fire-and-fury-book/index.html

I've already ordered it from Amazon.
I'm certain some of the things said are true and others exaggerated, so I'll certainly take it all with a grain of salt.  However, the idea that Trump didn't ever want to win seems completely plausible to me.  I remember his body language and demeanour on his first visit to the White House, like a terrified school child.

After having read the  column linked above, I'm actually having second thoughts about reading the book if it's going to make me feel the same desperation.  Here's a quote :
"At Mar-a-Lago, just before the new year, a heavily made-up Trump failed to recognize a succession of old friends."

After sharing the link with my husband and his response to it (via email because he's away for work), I replied, "The thing that keeps hitting me, though... he writes in past tense, because this was last year.  But... Trump is still in office.  This book is going out about the US's sitting President.  The world will read this.  The US might as well poop.  It is dead."

(Pooping refers to "death poops"... a thing we joke about... we're mature.   ::) )

This is my thought process. I know that there are probably truths in it that were then exaggerated or things that maybe weren't massive newsworthy bits that they've added more emphasis than required on....but clearly there is something there as I heard not long after these details came out did Trump say that White House staff were no longer allowed their personal devices....
My, how time flies....

I downloaded the Kindle version out of impatience (and FOMO).

I'm simultaneously eagerly and anxiously waiting to see what happens in the end, myself.  I don't think this book tells the ending.  I expect there will be a sequel, or a separate epilogue.

My single greatest fear is that Trump will be assassinated.  Can you imagine a state funeral for him?  Burial in Arlington?  I would literally have to cut off the cord to my router for mental health

That’s probably crossed his mind too.
