Just walked the couple of miles up to Tesco in Maryhill. Now in possession of a bag, to be made into frito pie with the leftover chili I have in the freezer, later this week. Hopes are high!

They also have "Food Should Taste Good" organic chips there, too. We used to have those in SoCalif.

Color me a happy camper. And party at her house, yes! ;D

And even if I had seen them in the store, the fact they are labelled 'tortilla strips' would have made me walk on by, because that description sounds nothing like the wondrous glory of a Frito!

So many things seem to get lost in translation here... I would've skipped them, too.

But now I'm toying with buying some of these and making a beefy chilli for my husband to try the experience that is the Frito pie.  With jalapenos, because they make everything better.

Be sure to put a nice mix of cheeses on the top, and get them bubbly....  ;D

Party at Albatross's house!!!  ;D

Bag 1 - to be eaten by me alone, as soon as the delivery driver is away, possibly even before I put the rest of the shopping away
Bag 2 - to become Frito pie
Bag 3 - to go with the bean dip I'm going to make
Bag 4 - to go with the Herdez avocado & chile sauce currently in my fridge
Bag 5 - to be planked away for a special occasion, in case I can never buy these again

This has worked out better than I could have imagined.  Does the package have stuff written in French?

Can somebody please post a recipe for making a Frito pie?  It sounds familiar but I can't remember exactly,..,

There's lots of ways to make a frito pie. The way we usually (learned in West Texas) do it is to cover a small baking dish with a goodly layer of fritos. Top with your best chili (don't scrimp), green onions, (jalepenos if you're into those), and a good cheese mix. [We're going to try the local cheddar mixed with mozzarella, mixed with an unlabled cheese in the fridge. Ideally you'd use a longhorn cheddar/monterrey jack mix, but we can't get that here.]

Anyway, into the oven until the cheese is bubbly. Top with some more chopped green onions. Serve with a cold beer.

If you're feeling lazy, put a handfull of fritos in a bowl, ladle hot chili on top, add the toppings, mix it all together, and nom.  ;D

Nom is right!  That sounds fabulous and healthy.  The rest of the family won't go for it, but next time I am on my own this is dinner.

Not seen an actual bag yet, but the photo on the Tesco website does have French writing on it.

Gonna look at Inshes tonight. If they don't, I will look in the big Tesco. I'm never at the one in town or at Nessside, but if they have 'Fritos' I will travel!
