Preparing for FLR(M)
« on: January 22, 2018, 01:35:20 PM »
Hi all,

Two years have already past and now focus is shifting to prepare for FLR(M). If possible please can someone clarify the date we should be applying? My understanding was it was at 2 and half years (minus 28 days?). Half way point of the 5 year route. However looking at issue and expiry dates of my wife's BRP has left some confusion.

BRP Date Of Issue: 15-01-2016
BRP Valid Until: 21-10-2018 (33 months?)
Entered UK: 03-02-2016

We are not sure if the 2 and half years started on BRP issue date or the UK entry date? Also making sure we don't apply too early that it would make indefinite leave harder to obtain.

It's likely we would do an application in person. Two viable locations for us would be Croydon or Cardiff. Wondering if anyone had experience with either of these centres and could share any experiences.

Many thanks!

The BRP is valid for 2 years and 9 months (33 months), but you only have to live in the UK for 2 years and 6 months (30 months) before you apply for FLR(M). And you can apply 28 days before reaching 30 months from entry to the UK.

So if she entered the UK on 3rd March 2016, she will reach 30 months on 3rd September 2018 and can apply for FLR(M) up to 28 days before that.

The latest she can apply is the expiry date of her BRP... 21st October 2018.

I’ve been to Croydon three times.  Two out of three visits were troubled with computer issues and excessive waits.  As FLR(M) has only been taking 6 weeks or so by post, I personally would do that, if there is no immediate need to travel.  But of course, the same day service is an option.   :D

The closer you apply to the expiration date of the BRP, the more time you will have to play with when it comes to applying for ILR.
