I made it home from work and I didn't have to walk it :D!

Luckily, the road outside work was allowing traffic one way (the way I needed to go), and all the other roads through the city were fine. It was only my residential road that was still covered in snow :).

Fingers crossed I won't have to get back into work again in the next couple of days.

Yay! Glad you're safe. Now get warm, they are saying on the news that the gas is going to run out!   ;D

Thanks :). I've taken a shower and now I'm curled up on the sofa with a blanket and a hot water bottle!

I saw that about the gas, though just reading an article about it now, they say that household gas supplies should not be affected... so fingers crossed :).

You guys!  Someone rang the doorbell, and I expected my neighbour to be out there checking in on me, but it was my husband!  They quit early today and he banked on not needing to work tomorrow and his boss said he could go home.  So he is here!  My Friday Five #1 will be different tomorrow!

We have already made and consumed egg nog and we've started a batch of chili to simmer while we watch last year's Master Chef.

Please everyone don't forget the birds in this weather. Even if you don't have food for them, they'd thank you for some water.  :)

We put out feeders and have been doing water thanks to one of your previous posts. However, I’ve not seen any birds I hope their ok. We have a family of ducks at work too in our pond and they’ve disappeared as well.

People keep saying 'Oh this isn't much snow to you' but I think it's as dangerous as back home (NY).  My hometown would have the plows out immediately and there were laws about how long you had to shovel your walk.  Here no one shovels because they don't even own a shovel.  And the council has not plowed one street in the city centre.  The pavements and many of the streets are just solid ice from packed down snow melting and refreezing.  I saw a guy completely eat it on the pavement outside work today--luckily he was ok, but it could have been a lot worse.

America is law suit happy yes, but some good comes out of it sometimes...like getting people to clean their sidewalks and parking lots :p ...poor nanas all stuck at home for fear of eating it bc no one has cleaned the snow.

Thank you for thinking of the birds!  :D
What you might try if you have all the food hanging, is put some on the ground instead. While the wind is so strong, it'll be easier for them to get to that way.  And definitely keep up with the water too.  I'm going out with kettles 2 or 3 times a day to defrost/re-fill the bird baths.
And keep a look out for their little footprints! I've found it really fascinating seeing what they've been up to by their tracks!  ;D

My wife always feeds the birds.....we just barely have any. They seem to go through spurts of being around. We have food plus the fat cakes.....just very few birds. Can't put anything on the ground since we have a food crazy dog.....he won't come in if there is anything on the ground to eat....bird seed is fine with him.

My partner left town Tuesday morning for what was supposed to be a quick trick for a dream job interview and has been stranded away from home ever since! Here's hoping the flight he's scheduled for tomorrow manages to get him back.  :o

Here in Edinburgh, things are starting to slowly move back to normal after a couple days of the town being almost completely shut down. Buses are running again, more stores were open, and there were more people out walking today. I'm from the Midwest, so the storm actually seemed pretty mild to me. ;) Edinburgh is gorgeous in the snow!
