Tax accountant
« on: March 15, 2018, 09:31:07 AM »
Hi everyone,

I'm a US/UK dual citizen and have been living in the UK for 10 years or so. I've recently started my own business (sole trader) and am just wondering if anybody has any tips on finding a good accountant who can help me prepare my US and UK tax returns next year and guide me on avoiding double taxation etc.

I've heard some horror stories about self-employed expats getting hammered by the IRS and I'm finding it all a little overwhelming trying to find info on what I need to do to avoid any big tax mistakes. Where does one find a reasonably priced and competent specialist in US/UK tax issues?

Thank you!

I can give you feedback from my own experience.

Last year I looked for assistance in bringing my US tax affairs up to date (my UK ones were fine - I'm a chartered accountant myself). I wanted to engage someone who was UK chartered but (ideally a IRS reporting agent) and wasn't going to cost me a fortune - some quotes I received were eye watering!.

I hope it's OK to mention names here as I have no vested interest just a genuine opinion? but having looked around and having spoken to a number of individuals, I opted for Warrener Stewart - I was very happy with the advice and help I got from both Ashleigh and Damian - and a feeling that I had paid fairly without being ripped off!

Good luck
