Sponsor Questions
« on: March 15, 2018, 11:23:05 AM »
Hi all,

I am sponsoring my fiancé to move here and in the midst of gathering documents.
Have a few questions for docs from employer and also accommodation docs.

1. I couldn't find my November payslip that comes through the post every month so have asked for a copy from HR with a letter on their official stationery saying it is valid, I assume this is fine?

2. I have also asked HR for my original job contract, however this seems like it will be a coloured copy but it has the signatures and dates. Is this okay despite it not having 'wet signatures' and is only a copy? They don't think they actually still have my contract as they normally scan them then scrap them which I am assuming is common practice?

3. My accommodation situation is slightly unusual in that my father owns the flat I currently live in and I pay rent to him however he has put my name on the mortgage payment for a number of beneficial reasons. We just checked the land registry to see if my name was on that as we weren't certain and It came back listing my parents name and my name as a 10% ownership. Is this going to affect any other documents I need given I am part owner of the title deeds? Also I assume a print out of the land registry is fine as it came in email form?

Hate this overthinking disease but got to ask even the obvious questions just to be sure!!  ::)

1.  That's perfect

2.  That'll be fine.  It's not a required document but a suggested one.

3.  Print the land registry out.  The one you downloaded *is* the original.  I'd err on the side of caution and have a letter from your parents stating that the property will not be overcrowded and that she has their permission to live there.

It's always better to ask at this stage! If you don't, you'll worry yourself even more while you're waiting for the result!   :)

I have written on my checlist of documents to have my latest P60, however I was unable to find it and it wont actually have my most recent jobs details yet anyway. Is this fine to leave out of the package?

I am instead including my original job contract.

Cant see a P60 being too big a miss??

A P60 is not required. The guidance just says they might ask for one.

The latest P60 is almost a year old now anyway, so it’s not going to matter if you can’t find it.

1. Do the sponsor letters need to be signed?

2. We recently got our marriage license from the probate court and wondered whether we have to send the original with the embossed signature, or can we just send a certified copy we got, where they stamped it but it doesn't have the embossing? We just don't want to potentially lose the original or have the UKVI keep it!

3. Does correspondence all have to be from the applicants social media/skype/email accounts or is a mix good to show communication both ways?

1. There should only be 1 sponsor letter, and yes, it needs to be original and signed.

2. It's up to you, I think. One of the certificate copies should be fine because it was stamped and given to you by them. However, In over 11 years, I have never heard of UKVI keeping or losing a marriage certificate.

3. No, it can be from either of you. All you need to show is that you have sent messages/emails between you, from one account to the other. Doesn't really matter whether you send the evidence from the sponsor's account or the applicant's, as long as it's documented.

Question for online application:

Where it asks if you have had previous passports...

My wife has only had the one passport until she recently got her new one with the name change, which changes the passport number I believe. The old passport with her maiden name wasn’t returned with her new one, do we still need to say yes to the any previous passports question and if so how do we get the old number?

Her old passport should have been returned to her, so if it wasn’t, I would chase it up and find out where it is, as you are supposed to include it with her visa application documents.

How long has it been since she got the new passport? She should have received two packages back, one containing the new passport and one containing the old one.

From the US government website (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/apply-renew-passport/faqs.html):

I'm renewing my passport. Do I get the old one back?

Yes, in most cases, we will return the old, cancelled passport to you.  It may be sent separately from your new passport. It is a good idea to keep your old passport in a safe place as it is considered proof of your U.S. citizenship.

You could maybe try contacting them to find out where her old passport is:
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/contact-us/passports.html

If you absolutely cannot get it back, you’ll need to explain on the application form where it is and why you cannot include it with the application documents. I think someone here on the forum was able to find out what their old passport number was, but not sure who they contacted.

Does your wife not have a copy of her old passport details anywhere (that’s always a good idea to have, just in case)?

Okay, you don’t need the following documents, so they can be taken out:

Sponsor Documents:
Accommodation
Land Registry
Mortgage Statement

These are not needed if you rent. The only documents you have to provide are the tenancy agreement and landlord letter.

Correspondence:
Engagement Ring Receipt (probably not needed but threw it in there)

Yep, not needed - take it out. It would only be needed for a fiancé visa.

Ksand, the first post explains an unusual accommodation situation, it might be better to include those documents.  :)
