Nice!  I didn't have a big budget.  I was just hoping to get in before the fee increase.  And now I feel silly for my panic.  Phew!

To be fair, the trend caused the panic!  They are actually being reasonable this year!

But the NHS fee will still be in there at some point.   ::)

They are going to double but we don't know exactly when.

Yeah, all we know is that it will happen sometime this year, but they haven’t given a date yet.

I only started budgeting January 2017. I put away the following last year:
£10 a week
£50 a month (from April 2017 on advice from either ksands or kfdancer to up the £100 a month to £150)
£100 a month into a high interest account
Then I did that savings plan where you put away £1 week 1, £2 week 2 and so I until week 52 where you pour away £52, it works out to about £1370.

Doing the same this year until July except the £100 in a high interest account as it is locked for a year, and the savings plan, and I started with £52 and am working my way down, so by August I'm done.

August 6th is the earliest I can apply in person (well the 4th is but it's a Saturday). It cannot come quick enough. I will smile paying my naturalization fees as that is the last im giving to the home office

They did used to raise them in November as well, but they haven’t done that for a few years.

Who knows if they will raise them again this year or not though.

Since I’ve been on the forum, we’ve had:
- a few years of one annual rise in April
- a couple of years of two annual rises, in April and November
- a few years of one annual rise in April

August 6th is the earliest I can apply in person (well the 4th is but it's a Saturday). It cannot come quick enough.

For £75 extra, you can do Saturday appointments.... if you wanted the earliest possible date.  You may end up paying the extra anyway, if you can't get an appointment between 9am and 4pm (earlier or later than that = £75 more).
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

This is an awesome plan. We have the savings if needed, but that's also house down payment money so I'd rather start my own! Once we have a car I'm going to try this :)

We are paying for all the EU applications, they can't put the prices up for those.

True, but that's ending.

Hi all,

Just a question about the potential IHS increase please.

We're planning to apply for FLR M next week (just waiting on few more papers). Can I just pay for the IHS now before it increases? Would I need to pay more if we submit the application when the IHS fee increases if I've already paid it before the increase?

Thanks

We don't even know when the IHS surcharge will increase yet - all we know is it will increase 'sometime this year'. I doubt it will happen before next week.

However, you can pay it at any time before you apply, so I would have thought it would be okay to pay now and then apply next week without paying more. I assume they will give a bit of notice as to when the new IHS fees will go into effect.

Thanks for your reply.

I just heard about the increases today and got into a bit of panic mode  ;D.

Yeah, the actual visa fees don't increase until April 6th, so you have a couple of weeks.

They haven't announced when the IHS surcharge will double yet. It could potentially April 6th, or it might not be until later in the year.
