Where to begin?
« on: August 30, 2005, 09:29:24 PM »
Hello all... I'm attempting to form a university plan and have a question. I figured this was the best place to ask.

Would you recommend doing a full undergraduate degree in the UK? My family and teachers (less than supportive) say I should get an undergrad in the US and a graduate abroad. Do you agree? (My degree plans are history and the classics.)

Thanks.

It depends on how much money you want to spend.  An undergrad degree in the UK will cost you between £7,000-8,000 per year just for tuition.  Multiply that by 3 years and you're looking at a lot of money.  Grad school can take as little as one year or as long as 4 or 5 depending on your course.

It's really up to you but if I was in your position, I'd do undergrad in the US, do an exchange programme to the UK and then come back for an MA.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…
