That's it.  They seem to be seriously eastern European.  Of course, that could be different than your perfect bagel.
Do you like the New York bagels in the grocery store? Those work for me with cream cheese and salmon.

They do the job but they don't satisfy that void (to me)

Have you thought about making your own?  I bet it's not that hard, you just have to boil the dough before baking.  I made pretzels with my kids and they were pretty good and it's the same game plan.

Funnily enough, I did think about it! I'm just too lazy so when I get the free time over the weekend it's the last thing I want to do. It's easier to just moan about it :p

next time I'm home though, the day I leave I WILL be taking bagels back with me to freeze and then I can defrost and eat as I see fit :) I need my chocolate chip bagels and my french toast bagels! :D (and I miss everything bagels!)

Bringing chocolate chip bagels back from the states can't be a sustainable solution.

First, have you tried chocolate chip brioche?  It's easily available in Tesco and is like soft bread with chocolate chips.

Second, how about a bread machine?  It can make the dough, then a quick boil and bake and Bob's your uncle

Trader Joe's has everything bagel seasoning if you ever get up the nerve to make your own, that will make it easy to season em!

I'm also curious what a French toast bagel is. Sounds tasty!

it's heaven! (toasted with just butter it's fantastic). I don't actually know what goes into it?? I'm assuming just cinnamon and vanilla flavours??

I have had the chocolate chip brioche and it's wonderful! But I like the bagel texture more. It's actually quite easy to take back. It's literally just a bagel with chocolate chips in it (not sure if the bagel batter itself is altered?). They do all kinds of bagels at this place (like different berry flavours, garlic, egg which I know sounds weird, and standard cinnamon raisin, etc.). You just wrap each up individually in saran wrap, put them back in the paper bag and pop that bag in your carry on. When you get back to the UK, you slice them in half and freeze them (so you de-frost and toast and you're good to go). I prefer my chocolate chip bagel with peanut butter for maximum fat-ness. They also do a realllyyy good vegetable cream cheese there but that I know wouldn't make it back okay.

When we got married in 2013, my mom had just been in NYC the week before and she brought me a bag of everything bagels.  They were delicious.  It was the only thing I could stomach on the morning (my poor husband!).  I could also go for a cinnamon crunch bagel from Panera right about now.

....I do have an air fryer :)

I may give this a go. I previously probably wouldn't have attempted making my own bagels, but I'm craving them WAY too hard now not to give it a go I think....

(Sorry Lyonaria for this going so far off topic and back to food again hahah)
