How about 'moxie'? That's how I usually spell it, I don't drop it into conversation that often though.

i've never heard of this moxee thing either!

How bee-czar.  I always thought of it as a NY mob-boss sort of term, but maybe it's just the Pacific Northwest?  I think I remember it from movies and TV shows...but maybe it's just an over active imagination???

Nah, it's used in Texas too, such as "It took inspiration and moxie for him to open dat dere feed store with all his money."

:D  Just taking the piss, it's just that I never hear anyone who isn't at least 50 and redneck using the phrase.  Good to see it getting e rebirth with a new generation.  :)

I think anyone who moves to a new country has "moxie"! It is used in Florida and Ohio too.   I had forgotten about that word!  I have introduced my DH to the following:

Lobster
Sushi
Calamari
Stone Crab Claws (he didn't like those and I still think he is crazy)
Baby Ruth (he says that it is the best American chocolate he has tasted)

Also, American slang but I have to laugh when he uses it.  It just doesn't sound right sort of like me trying to using British or Northern Ireland slang. ::)

"Moxie."

Like guts.  You hear it a lot in old gangster movies.  "You got moxie, kid," that sort of thing.

And my hubby now listens to good music thanks to me.  ;D  No more endless Billy Joel.  (Yes, I know some people are crazy about him.  But I can't stand him.)  I think we can all agree that The Clash, The Jam, Led Zeppelin (his new fave), etc. are better than elevator music.

Having American pancakes with eggs and sausage for dinner.  (We don't have a yummy smiley do we?)

And the big Denny's breakfast for breakfast.  He also now drinks tons of coffee when he only used to drink tea.  He got me hooked on tea, I have to get my decaf English tea imported.  The US brands just don't taste the same.
Dream a dream of England .......... Some day

Hubby listens to loads of older rock, punk, etc.  But when I was bemoaning the fact that we never hear Led Zep on the radio over here, he gave the the distinct impression they there were thought of as overrated.

I was shocked because where I come from the Zep was nothing short of revered.

I got my boyfriend obsessed with ziti. He's actually downstairs making it right now.  ;D He never ate pasta before he met me (spaghetti is my favorite food), but ever since I made him some he's been obsessed. He just makes it for himself (and me too, if I ask) several nights a week as a night time snack and comfort food. It's kinda cute.  :)

I have gotten him into Mexican and Spanish food, though!
