emergency, omg. did wrong app for son. what do i do?
« on: August 22, 2009, 02:30:39 AM »
So, I sent my stuff for my fiance visa to the expediter yesterday. She just called and informed me that I did the wrong application for my son! I did the same one for him that I did for myself.  The only dependant related option on the settlement list is "Child or other dependant of settled person". But I'm yet to become a "settled person" so I thought this was the wrong one! Is it the one I was meant to do? I have 12 days to get it all fixed or I lose the fees..and I may have already lost the grand for my sons incorrect application.

I am about 5 seconds from having a nervous breakdown and giving up.
Please help?? :(
Here we go:

17 AUG 2009- Applied online
20 AUG 2009- Biometrics
24 Aug- Sent everything to expediter
26 Aug-Application taken to consulate
26 Aug-Fiancee visas approved!!!
 2 Sep-Moved to UK!

I'm not certain you've actually done anything wrong.  Your son's app should cost the same as your own, and the details required are basically identical.  Tell the courier to write on the form that he is applying as your dependant, which is obvious anyway, and to submit what you've given her.  Your only other option would be to complete and pay for the other application, then ask for a refund for the first one.  But again....and I'm not an expert of course....I am not sure that you need to change anything.

Unfortunately if biometrics have already been done, they will not issue a refund on the fee.

I agree on the rest, tell her to submit the application and keep advice to herself unless she is qualified...why do I have the feeling that I know who this expediter is?

I think I agree with you Historyenne. I'm looking over the "settlement-dependent of settled person" app,(which is the only one with dependent in the name of it), and the questions don't seem to apply to our situation. It is asking things like "how are you related to your sponsor" and "how many living family members do you have". I wouldn't think those questions would apply to us, though I've been known to be very wrong when it comes to all of this. I really don't know what to do. I want to avoid having to submit another app because that means I'll have to drive 6 hours round trip to get more biometrics done and I don't have a car anymore, not to mention that I'll have another thousand dollars floating around in the ether somewhere.  :-\\\\

Whatever shall I do? Do expediters generally make mistakes like that?

Thanks, unfortunately it is exactly who I thought it was. Please let garry know via PM as he has been keeping track of issues like this regarding expediters.

Looking at the options of the online application, you chose the only relevant one. I cannot see how it would be any other possible option available. The child is not gettin married (so the marriage one is out), he's not a husband or a wife or an Unmarried Partner, or Proposed Civil Partner and he's not a returning resident. So the only option available is Child or Other Dependant of a Settled Person.

I'd ask your expeditor which one she'd pick.

The expediter also told me that the application for my son should cost less than the application for me...but I think all of them cost the same. :(

Weby, you think the dependent of settled person option is right? I did the settlement-marriage one. I looked over it beforehand and saw that it gave me options like "Who is traveling with this minor child" etc. so it seemed relevant.

I just tried to call the expediter but got no answer, I'll probably have to wait until Monday.

Quote

Dependants are charged the same fee as the main applicant. All dependants who are travelling must pay the fee whether or not they are included in the main applicant's passport.

That quote is from Worldbridge, you have to select the United States & then Visa Application Fees. So the expediter is wrong there. So grain of salt.

Logically there seems to be no other option than the one you chose. I believe Jayen did the same application for her son and made the same choices and received her visas a couple of days ago. The paper form will be different from the online form so I wouldn't worry about the differences.

If it were me, I'd instruct the expediter to deliver the applications as they are to the Consulate for processing.

I did not use an expediter but I DID fill out the wrong Visa app.
I was supposed to do a "work permit" one because my husband is there on that kind. I did a dependent app or something.

The correct app was actually 300.00 cheaper . I don't think we lost the money originally paid. However I did have to drive a few hundred miles to RE-DO my dang biometrics.
Maddening.
