I didn't realize that there was an area on this site dedicated to genealogy. It's been my passion for a few years now. I posted this thread in a different area in April so I've posted a link to my story.

I've been able to go back much farther than even this and now have traced one branch of my lineage back over 40 generations while another all the way back to AD62.:o  I thought that I was only descended from Edward the Longshanks through his daughter, but also discovered  a connection through his son Edward. It's all so amazing. I've since researched these various people through articles and historical documents, and it's so funny to read  why some of my ancestors came to America. I've traced some to the various beginnings of colonization in Massachusetts and Virginia, some being Quakers and others who came here after failed plots on various kings and queens. Some came here out of poverty and others for adventure. It's just fascinating, and I hope that everyone trying this out will stick to it as it's so incredible to discover your ancestors.

I've since researched my paternal line and it's been fun as well. I've gotten as far back as Cork, Ireland and learned that his ancestors came here as indentured servants. They eventually settled in Tennessee and later in Arkansas. The Mormon vaults are great if you can discover a common ancestor, as their researchers have gone very far back and stored those files and information already.

I think it's wonderful all that you have been able to find out.  I can 'see' the emotion and excitment in your post.  I'm hoping to get to that level of effort as you cause it is something that is important to me as well.  Good luck in your efforts.  :)

It's fascinating how far back you were able to go!  We were just talking about geneology yesterday at work.  Well others were, I wasn't.  :-\\\\  My father could only go as  far back as I think his grandparents, and then it was impossible.  For those of us with Eastern European roots its hard because surnames were changed (often new and easier to spell ones were given) upon arrival in the US.

Wow!  That is amazing :)  I have always been interested in genealogy as well...I am just nosey I think and want to know everything about everyone!  Haven't gotten very far, hah, really, I haven't even started but it is always interesting to read about other people's successes!

I think to go that far back DNA analysis is used. My BIL traced his ancestry that way (although not that far back).

Thank you all for replying, it has been a really amazing time for me. I feel so American tracing my ancestry :D. I remember being in Scotland and seeing all the Americans getting their 'tartans', and I used to think it was really funny. Now, I'm probably going to do the same thing ;D.

I think it's mainly since I was adopted and didn't know anything. I think everyone who comes from a closed adoption wonders if they're a long lost 'princess', and I think it was so funny to find the royal link. My older daughter makes us all call her princess Angela now and she does the 'royal wave' ;D.

Anyway, I dedicate a little time to this every few days, since the vaults are so extensive, and in going back so many generations, there are literally a thousand lines or so to uncover. Here's my latest discovery: I'm directly descended from King Edward the Longshanks and Prince Edmund, both sons of Henry the 2nd (lots of cousin intermarriage and all). I'm also directly descended from 3 of King Edwards children, Elizabeth, Joan, and Edward (again, all those kissin' cousins). One line goes back to Charlemagne, the Holy Roman Emperor and beyond. I also uncovered that President Bush is a direct descendant of King Edward's daughter Joan as well :o.

I've had fun uncovering facts of some of my crazy ancestors. I'm descended from this man's son who fled to the colonies after his father was executed.

I encourage everyone who is interested to get as many names of grandparents and beyond. If there is a common ancestor, the Mormon vaults hold incredible information. There are many researchers who have done the actual work that might take many years to uncover. The researchers can post on these LDS pages and they are pretty extensive.

I know what you mean about 'wanting to know'!  I am the same way about my dad's side of the family...a bit trickier for me because he is Lebanese and has the MOST common arab name known to mankind :)  I actually used the internet to track down family members to try and get in touch with him...took me about 10 years and I met some really awesome cousins!!  It is a great feeling when you finally open doors to your past :)

My fathers family came from Italy and my fathers grand fathers name was changed to Grande and his first name to Christie, my mother came from Irish/itialian, we haven't really looked further but it would be interesting to know more.

My wifes family is all over the UK her mom does this and has linked their family line to northern parts of the UK and Irland and Wales (Tom Jones) which she wasn't to pleased about lol, and her dad's family is moved to Canada and USA, they had a big bible with all of the immigrants that went to the US and Canada, and were they ended up, which appears to be Salt Lake City.

It is very interesting I would like to find out if anyone else in my family mother or fathers side had a child with SMA or anything related to this.
