UK License
« on: September 26, 2021, 07:10:25 PM »
Just had a WTF moment.  Long car journey today.  I decided to look at my license and IT IS EXPIRED.

I can’t believe Sirius hasn’t knocked on my door demanding my British Citizenship returned immediately for not having good character.

Anyways, two minutes online and immediate confirmation that I’m okay to drive until new card arrives. I can’t believe it didn’t want a new photo?!?  What’s the point then?   ;D

I wouldn't evenhave thought to look.  Any idea how long they're good for?  I'll try to pay attention when the time has elapsed.
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

I now understand how people don’t realise their visa has expired. They really don’t warn you.   :o

100% my fault, of course.  Just definitely caught out.  So glad I discovered it while it’s “kinda okay”. As in, no accident, insurance claim, ticket, etc.  I feel so naughty!   ;D

I thought you were in with UKVI? Telling me who had been working when they weren't allowed and joking about telling  UKVI. They were one of your fellow countrymen too! Just trying to do the same as you and get a Brit to sponsor them as a spouse and be on a visa they can get British citizenship from.

Or until age 70 whichever comes sooner, as I discovered when I got mine recently. I’ll need to put a calendar reminder to myself 3 years hence if you they don’t send out reminders.

Adding to the mystery is both my husband and I updated the address on our licenses when we moved to our current home 6 years ago.  His was renewed with the expiration date in 4 years time.  Mine was not.  I suspect there was a reason and possibly a difference in cost for this.  But still made us scratch our heads.  :D

Ah, the vagaries of government departments.  Today my wife asked when she should apply for her free bus pass  as she will be eligible end of November. I told her that I applied for mine 4 weeks early, in the middle of the peak of the pandemic in January this year and it arrived a week later, 3 weeks before my birthday.  Hopefully her application in November will be as efficient.  (All done online including the photo selfie I took)

The same thing happened to DH!

While going through his wallet a few weeks ago, he was like, "Oh, my license expired.  Whoops."

He's all legal again now, but yeah - totally forgot about it.  Also didn't need to take a new photo, so unfortunately, the old photo is still there.  And both of us are under no illusion that it's a particularly flattering one!

Not be allowed to smile…. We all look like mug shots!  ;D.

I’m relieved I’m not the only one who didn’t realise their license was expired!

I can't decide which is worse - my UK or US passport!  They're both pretty dire.

For me it is the one in the mirror that is frightening.

So for next time….

There’s an photo place called paspic.com. You take your photo at home with a neutral background. They photoshop a studio white/grey background, print it in ANY size required and post it next day. And it’s cheaper than the high street. You can take a thousand photos and make sure it’s one you don’t hate. ;D

When I had my first license photo here and was told I couldn’t smile….  Sigh, I tried to Smile With My Eyes per Tyra Banks.  Yeah, don’t try that if you are not a professional.  Unless you like the psychopath look….
