eCRBA application query re: time abroad
« on: July 04, 2023, 06:21:59 PM »
Hi there

We have just had our first child and my wife is currently applying for a CRBA to get them a US passport.

During the online application process, during the residence history section she's being asked about her time abroad, but it's unclear if this is military-related only or to include holidays/vacations during her life:

This is what the page says:

Based on the information you provided, we need to know about any qualifying time XXX spent abroad prior to the child's birth. This includes serving in, or as a dependent of someone serving in a government agency or the military. You'll need to provide proof of time abroad, which could be documentation from an international organization, U.S. government orders, or U.S. military orders. If you have no qualifying time abroad, please click next to continue.

The only options on the drop down menu when you add an entry are:
Dependant of person serving abroad
Qualifying international organization
US Armed Forced
Other US goverment employment

None of that is relevant to us - so do we just skip it or do we somehow have to list her previous non-US trips on holiday?
Application submitted: 14 September 2018
Biometrics & Docs sent: 2 October 2018
Application received email: 2 November 2018
Decision made email: 6 December 2018
Visa arrived: 7 December - approved :)

This question is asking if there have been any periods of time she has spent outside the US during which she was still considered to be residing in the US, because she was either serving her country in the military or was on assignment overseas with a US government department/organisation (or other qualifying international organisation)

Which is why it only gives the following options:
Dependant of person serving abroad
Qualifying international organization
US Armed Forced
Other US goverment employment

If none of those apply to her, then she just clicks Next to continue.
