Can a spouse visa be applied for BEFORE marriage?
« on: May 13, 2008, 01:44:32 PM »
I saw something about this somewhere, but cannot find it again, and this could solve all our problems.

Can you apply for the spouse visa online, before you actually get married, I am sure people have done so?

Going through the online visa application, the only question it ask is:

When and where did you marry/enter into a civil partnership?

If you are not married/in a civil partnership, please state this.

If my finace fills this form out one week before the wedding and chooses a date after the marriage to get the biometrics done, will this be accepted as it will mean having an extra week leeway on when we fit the biometrics in?

I'm just not certain if she will be allowed to do the biometrics if she says that we are not yet married on the online form?

Any advice?

I appiled online about two weeks before my wedding, but this was about a year ago and I didn't have biometrics and I was still able to apply in person at the embassy.

What did you reply to the question highlighted in my post, and shall I assume it all went through successfully?

Ahhh, we got married in the US last year.  I am living in the UK now.  But things have changed.  I believe you can still apply online in advance, but since you can't book appointments they now want your supporting documents sooner.

Supporting documents?

Can my fiance apply for the UK spuse visa a week before we are due to marry, pay for it, and then book the biometrics at the end of the application for as soon after the wedding as possible?

I'll add this question here since perhaps it is a more relevant post.

When applying online in advance, should you treat each question as referring to the present or to the future when after married?

For example, how should you answer questions like, "Is your sponsor in the UK?" "When was  the last time you saw your sponsor" etc. when circumstances may change from before and after the wedding?

Thank you!!!
