It was 30 years ago today....
« on: May 25, 2007, 01:13:03 AM »
... when Star Wars first opened.  THIRTY YEARS, people!!  I'm feeling the oddest combination of old, giddy, nostalgic, and astounded.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to the Post Office's website to pre-order some stamps.

I love Star Wars. I don't remember when Star Wars came out (I was only two), but I definitely remember seeing the Empire Strikes Back in the theater. Han Solo was one of my first crushes! :)

I can't believe it! I remember going with my dad to see it when it first came out. Then he bought the little mini version on Super 8 which we used to watch from the projector on the wall. AGES ago!!

Has it really been that long??? I remember playing with all the little action figures my cousin had. I was so jealous.

We had a renaissance when it came out in 96.  DS was 2 and he went nuts for star wars.  He had all the figures and the play value from those was enormous!!  we still have them.  They have traveled with us!

I loved those action figures!  My brother and I would play with them for hours.  Well, until we discovered that if you put them in a paper cup of water and freeze them, they break in to a zillion pieces from the pressure of freezing.

Considering how much the original toys are worth these days, we probably froze a small fortune!

LOL I'd love to know the thought process that went into putting them in cups of water and freezing them. Sounds like something we'd have done ;D

Ha ha ha!!!
I remember I had a little metal C3PO and metal R2D2. I think I wanted to marry C3PO! lol
When my eldest son was born (he's 12 now) we started collecting the new Start Wars figures. We have about 50 still in blister packs. I hope one day they'll be worth something for him.

It actually came about after seeing The Empire Strikes Back.  We thought we'd re-enact the scenes from Hoth. ::)
