almost there -- pls help with last minute things
« on: March 18, 2009, 04:34:56 PM »
hi all

am applying to tier 1 from US
am almost there to send my application to the consulate
i got my bank statements stamped...so for previous earnings attribute, should i align the bank statements and pay stubs for each month together and mention the same in the cover letter...
or should i just group them as pay stubs and bank statements ??
i know its kind of silly question but people who got approved previously can suggest what they have done..

thanks,
kk

I actually did not have any pay stubs included. I would think it would be easier to look through if you had bank statements together and pay stubs together (with my bank statements, I highlighted which account it was - i.e. savings or checking, etc - and the amount available in that account to make it easier). BUT, if you're using a courier (which I HIGHLY recommend), I think some of them tend to take things out and put it together in a way they know will make it easy for the consulate. Technically I don't believe they are supposed to do this, and there is some controversy there. But my visa got approved, so I'm not going to cause a big fuss about it. :) Good luck!

Hi Mitr,

I didn't use paystubs so I can't compare directly. I used bank statements, a letter from my employer and a W-2 (redundant but I had it so I added it.) I put everything separately in clear plastic sleeves and decided the consulate can sort it all out. The guidance doesn't say you need to match things up (physically) so I didn't bother. I haven't heard if I've been approved or not yet.

thank you both for the quick replies...
i put things in a folder with seperaters named with each attribute..

but am still debating on using a courier or not..i dint know the courier people actually look into our folder and reorder them ...

am actually within chicago area, (suburbs)..if i post the documents tomorrow morning by USPS Express ..they should be at the consulate by the end of the day or by noon the next day...
i guess i wont have any way to track my application status though...will COURIER services be helpful that area??

I sent my FedEx priority overnight. The very next day I got this email from the consulate:

Dear Applicant

Your application has arrived safely at the New York office and is currently being processed. The estimated processing time for your application is 5/10 working days plus mail time, however no guarantee is given. Sometimes it is necessary to make additional enquiries on an application which will extend the processing time.

You will receive another e-mail advising you of the outcome of your application in due course.

Please note that we are unable to answer status enquiries unless we have exceeded the estimated processing time.

Regards
New York Visa Team.

I didn't use a courier because I'm in NO hurry for them to issue my visa. I won't be traveling before August.

If I wasn't in a hurry then I wouldn't have bothered witha courier either. However, I have read that some people on here have been waiting for over a month to get their approval by sending it regular. I applied to the LA consulate - I'm not sure what the Chicoago consulate is like at the moment. There is another thread about the couriers. As it is, they don't have any guidelines they have to go by. Some of the people associated with this board are trying to get that changed. So it could be a good or bad thing that they *may* look through your folder (often they offer advice as well, which they shouldn't really be allowed to do either) as they could argue your case for you if the consulate has questions, make it more presentable to how they know the consulate will want it, or mess up your presentation. I was kind of irked about all that, but like I said mine was approved so it worked in my favor. I think if you present yourself well (which it sounds like you are giving them more than enough documentation) and you're not in a rush, then probably best to send it in yourself. Just my opinion though. Do you what you feel best about in your gut.

I sent them Monday night and got the email yesterday afternoon.  :D

I worked really hard on my binder to make sure everything was clear and well organized. I hope that makes for an easy straight foreward processing. I requested a travel date of July 1 (assuming they wouldn't get to my application until April) but now I'm wondering if I'll have it sooner.

In either case I'm just glad that I have an email from them saying they have it in their hands BEFORE April 1. That was really my biggest concern. I haven't seen much talk of the NY consulate so I'm not sure if they've been overloaded lately or not.

Good luck w/ everything!

Thank you! I think being really anal with the way it was presented may have helped. I made a very neat and organized binder on the suggestion of severel people here. It had a table of contents, cover letter and a sheet I typed up with contact information for every piece of evidence (employer, personal accountant, univiersity records department, local bank branch).

Granted I'm sure how busy (or not busy) each consulate is has more to do with it than anything.

Good luck Mitr, I'm sure you'll be fine! It's the folks who haven't discovered this site for whom I worry!
