Interestingly enough I am looking forward to hearing back from the Home Office minister, my MP (who is lovely) has been in touch with the HO minister to address all of the concerns I have raised (on behalf of EVERYONE) on this forum...

The Home Secretary, Amber Rudd?

To be fair, Amber Rudd didn't make the current rules... that was Theresa May, who was Home Secretary before she because PM.

May spent 6 years ruining UK immigration before Amber Rudd got the job... she's the one who vowed to bring net migration down to 100,000 and who brought in the 2012 rules: the higher income requirement, the 5 years to ILR and the higher fees.

It sure seems to be working as migration figures went down by 87,000 this year alone....

Actually, it's the opposite of working. Immigration figures actually rose by about 80,000 after the new rules were put in place - they went from 250,000 in 2011 to 330,000 in 2014!

As far as I can tell, the ONLY reason the migration figures have fallen so much is because of Brexit, with lots of EU citizens leaving the UK and less moving here... it appears to have nothing to do with the UK visa immigration rules.

If the UK hadn't voted to leave the EU, I bet the immigration figures wouldn't have fallen... or at least not by as much as they have.

Now that they have fallen though, we're back down to the same migration figures we had BEFORE the new rules were implemented... so basically, the government have made no progress in regards to lowering their figures to 100,000 in the last 5 years :P.

Approved! A huge thank you to everyone here, your support and advice has really helped us though this nightmare. Best of luck to you all!

Congrats DRichW!

We received our visa on Tuesday, so I am finally seeing my partner this Saturday! Safe to say that once our wedding's out of the way next month, I'm going to be writing my MP (Keir Starmer) a very long letter!

Best of luck to everyone here, and especially to eshodgson and Keiki! Hang in there! Keiki, your spreadsheet brought me out from the depths of no information to a more hopeful land - my blood pressure and I thank you!

Great to see that you will be engaging with your MP, mind has been pretty good so far and has already been in touch with the HO minister

My husbands contract is due to end the 2nd September. We were hoping his passport will be back in time for him to fly back. But I've arranged a girls cocktail night at my house that night (as we didn't see it happening by then) so he may be kicked out for the evening 😂😂
