Hello all! International couple looking for advice~
« on: July 01, 2022, 09:50:22 PM »
Hey everyone! We're a long distance couple who met online during the worst of the covid pandemic. Through lockdowns and travel restrictions, we've finally been able to meet a bunch of times over this past year, and have recently become engaged! We're both going to be hopping onto this account, but we're Mark (UK) and Caroline (US).
We've been looking into our options to eventually move over to the UK, but there's so much information out there on visas and immigration laws and everything else, that it can often be overwhelming to parse through it all.
So we're hoping that in the coming months we can get some advice and help from people who've been through this all before, who can point us in the right direction and give us some idea of what to expect throughout the whole process.

Looking forward to talking with you all!

Welcome to the forum.  :)

Sounds like it would be a good idea for you to start a thread over in the visa forum where you can begin asking all your questions.

Can we start with the obvious?  It can be done, and it's fine.  There's plenty of Americans living here and people will be overall nice to and you'll have a great time.  You'll get to travel everywhere, you can day trip to France from London!   Your children will be British and talk funny, so get used to that.   You'll eventually stop fitting in to the US, and never quite fit in here, so there is that sad never fitting in anywhere thing.  Your family and friends in the US will stop making any effort to keep up relationships.  Tea is disgusting and god help you if join in the tea round, you'll end up obligated to make 25 different cups with a mind boggling variety of options.  Brits don't actually know how to queue but people never tire of saying they do. Read the book Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour () if you really want to know what's going on.
