Just to let you know...
I am here on an ancestry visa. I am BOTH American and Canadian.
So I am a Yankee and Canuck.

Well what else are they going to throw at us?

This is not making me want to stay in this country AT ALL.  But maybe that is the intention...

I was hoping my kids could get citizenship but now, I guess not.  It really makes it hard to plan our future with everything so up in the air.

Thanks for the info guys.

So am I. I was born in Canada, but my mother's American. So I have both Canadian and American passports.

Which area will holders of the Retired Persons of Independent Means visas fall under?  We wrinklies don't want to wait 10 years!  ::)

Good point... I suspect you fall through the cracks too and end up on the Long Term Residence rules.  They of course have totally removed that category, but we should verify those of you who are here.

I think the relevant question is the transitioning provisions for people already here on RPIM.  Like Kitson says, the category is being eliminated, so therefore no provisions are needed in the new bill.  So the only issue is what to do with those on legacy categories.  They won't get thrown out, the question is what's their pathway forward?

And as far as that goes, it seems RPIM has been left without a rabbi.

Is there a definitive statement that a) ancestry is being scrapped b) that those currently on ancestry will have to wait 10 years for ILR?

If not, can we get one?  Can an ancestry visa holder please write to their MP on this?

I have an Australian friend who married a British citizen recently.  She arrived here with her husband this month but she came on an ancestry visa, not a spousal visa.  Can she change her visa in country and would it benefit her to do so?

If she has only just come to the UK then, by changing to the spousal visa she should be on track to get ILR in only two years.  Under current rules, it is 5 years under the ancestry, and it looks as though that may also change.

It is an FLR (M).

How do we poor souls get a rabbi?   :)
